Mike, Nick, and Alice Get Timey-Wimey with Wiseguys, Vince Vaughn, and Eiza González
The film also features plenty of time-travel shenanigans. Eiza González ironically notes, "Funnily enough, every project I have this year is time travel. I don't know how that happened. I'm the queen of time travel." The Mexican star refers to projects like 3 Body Problem. She quips, "Seriously, if you ever need any guidance, I can really hold your hand."
However, the film's appeal for everyone involved isn't so much the science fiction aspect as it is the character interactions and the unique dynamics they create. Vaughn, in particular, seems to be in his element as a fast-talking character, reminiscent of his roles in films like Swingers and Made.
"I thought all the characters were a lot of fun. I really liked all the relationships," Vaughn states. "You've got a bunch of characters, none of whom make great decisions. They've all made choices that weren't the best. And even though Nick is the one who comes back with some perspective on what to do differently, to think about how his actions affect people, everyone is being dragged into a journey to confront their decisions. It's almost like a Greek myth in the sense that once the die is cast, morality will come to fruition."
"If it were a movie about people who made great decisions, it would last about 18 minutes. We'd all fall asleep," Grabinski smiles. "Entertainment comes from watching people fail and then try to be better. If they're already better, there's no movie."
Grabinski obviously alludes to the characters' shady occupations, yet there remains a universal appeal in the film's approach. After all, these are still individuals effectively being handed a 'redo button' to correct past relationship mistakes.
Grabinski explains, "I believe the relatable aspect of the film isn't necessarily about regret or wishing you had a time machine to change everything. It's that we all have relationships that evolve over time. Sometimes, hindsight is the only way to diagnose what went wrong. We've all had a friendship, a romantic relationship, or a sibling relationship that started strong and then changed. You gain perspective by looking back and considering what you would do if you were forced to confront the past."
