Dark Outlaw Games' Unreleased Title, Shut Down by Sony, Was Not a Live Service
The development studio Dark Outlaw Games, led by Call of Duty veteran Jason Blundell, has been officially shut down by Sony PlayStation.
While the exact reasons remain largely undisclosed, Blundell and JCbackfire, a streamer who also served as a level designer at the studio, offered some insights during a recent Twitch broadcast.
Blundell and JCbackfire Speak Out
Blundell stated he holds no resentment towards Sony, describing them as a 'great partner.' The closure of the 20-person team, he explained, was a result of a 'change in PlayStation's strategy,' a decision that was, understandably, devastating for the studio.
Blundell clarified that, due to non-disclosure agreements, they couldn't delve into 'every gory detail.' JCbackfire succinctly added, 'To cut a long story short: we're unemployed.' However, it was JCbackfire who confirmed a crucial detail: the game they were developing was not a live service project, defying widespread speculation.
Blundell reassured viewers that it's simply a matter of 'changing times, changing priorities,' adding that 'fans would have been thrilled with the project we were working on and what we were doing.'
JCbackfire, who has only five years of development experience, expressed his disappointment but also reiterated his strong desire to continue his career in the video game industry.
It's worth noting that this marks the second time a studio led by Blundell has been shut down, following his previous tenure at Deviation Games.
