Will Hollow Knight: Silksong Be Available on Game Pass?

After a prolonged period of anticipation, Team Cherry has officially announced the highly awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong will launch on September 4. While the game will be available for direct purchase, many fans are curious whether it will also be accessible through subscription platforms such as Xbox Game Pass.

Confirmed: Hollow Knight: Silksong Joins Game Pass

Microsoft and Team Cherry have confirmed that Silksong will indeed be part of the Xbox Game Pass library from day one. Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will enjoy access across both console and PC, while PC-exclusive players can opt for PC Game Pass.

While there`s a possibility that Silksong might eventually be included in more affordable Game Pass tiers, such as Game Pass Standard or Game Pass Core, no such plans have been confirmed, and it`s not expected to happen in the near future.

The critically acclaimed predecessor, 2017`s Hollow Knight, is already available on Xbox Game Pass and can be purchased for $15. It also features in Sony`s PlayStation Plus Extra Game Catalogue.

Currently, there are no indications of Silksong arriving on PlayStation Plus, and any such addition would likely not occur soon. Furthermore, Nintendo Switch Online typically does not feature day-one releases for third-party titles.

The Journey of Development: A Prolonged Anticipation

Silksong began its life as an expansion for Hollow Knight, but Team Cherry ultimately expanded it into a complete, standalone game. Following this transition in 2019, the developers maintained a low profile, leading to years of silence. This lack of updates caused considerable concern among fans, with some questioning the game`s very existence or fearing it was trapped in development hell.

Team Cherry has since clarified that development progressed steadily throughout this period. The immense commercial triumph of the original Hollow Knight provided the studio with the financial freedom to meticulously craft Silksong without rush.

Silksong made a grand reappearance at Gamescom in Germany this week, drawing massive crowds. Attendees formed extensive queues, eager for an opportunity to experience the highly anticipated title firsthand.

Steve Watts, after his hands-on experience at Gamescom, noted that “Hollow Knight: Silksong lives up to all expectations: a robust, beautifully designed, and visually stunning game that thoughtfully evolves the original`s aesthetics and gameplay principles with subtle yet significant enhancements.”

Despite not being a mainstream AAA title, Silksong commands immense hype and pent-up demand. Its impending release has even led to at least three other developers postponing their own projects, acknowledging Silksong`s significant presence.
