Where to Find the Scoutmaster in Peak

Locating the Scoutmaster in the game Peak presents a significant challenge due to several factors. Players need patience, a willingness to engage with unusual gameplay mechanics, and the courage to confront a formidable foe. The Mentorship Badge achievement is earned by having a direct encounter with the Scoutmaster, who players might recognize as the author of the in-game guidebook found at the beginning of each run. This guide will outline the strategies for finding the Scoutmaster in Peak and unlocking this achievement.

Funnily enough, the first rule of the guidebook is an important clue for the achievement.

How to Summon the Scoutmaster in Peak

To find the Scoutmaster in Peak and earn the Mentorship Badge achievement, it`s crucial to understand that he must be summoned; he does not appear randomly. Specific actions are required to trigger his appearance. The method for summoning the Scoutmaster varies depending on whether you are playing alone or with others online:

  • In single-player mode, players must use the Scoutmaster`s Bugle, a rare item within Peak.
  • In multiplayer mode, players must disregard Scoutmaster Myres` guidance and intentionally separate from their teammates, effectively leaving a friend behind.

Finding the Scoutmaster`s Bugle (Single-Player)

Regarding the single-player method, the Scoutmaster`s Bugle is an exceptionally rare item with a very low probability of appearing. It can be found either within Ancient Luggage (suitcases marked with a red emblem) or by interacting with Ancient Statues located at the summit of each biome. When obtaining the Bugle from a statue, it`s essential that all players are alive; otherwise, the statue will prioritize reviving fallen climbers instead of yielding an item. While the Scoutmaster`s Bugle can also appear in multiplayer games, its drop rate remains extremely low. Based on extensive gameplay (over 26 hours), the item was only observed twice, though multiple opportunities were missed due to teammates being downed, affecting statue drops. Therefore, individual experiences may differ.

Summoning the Scoutmaster in Multiplayer

In multiplayer mode, encountering the Scoutmaster can be relatively simpler. The key is to separate yourself from your cooperative teammates, whether you`re playing with just one other person or several. A reliable method to initiate this encounter is for all other players to remain at the starting point of the Shore biome while you proceed alone towards the peak and begin climbing.

After ascending for a few minutes, you will notice a change in the background music, replaced by distinct sounds resembling distant bells. The Scoutmaster is programmed to pursue players who deviate from their group, so he will likely approach you. A visual indicator of his proximity is a gradual film grain effect on the screen, which intensifies and reduces visibility as he gets closer.

Once the Scoutmaster is near, approach him to trigger the Mentorship Badge achievement. While there`s a possibility he might fall from a ledge and temporarily halt the chase, he will usually quickly recover and resume. At this point, you can either try to escape (be warned, the Scoutmaster is quite agile) or allow him to capture you. In one personal experience, the Scoutmaster apprehended the player and threw them off the mountain.

These are the primary methods for encountering the Scoutmaster. It`s worth noting that accidentally straying from your team can also inadvertently trigger this encounter. This mechanic serves as a challenging and intense reminder of the importance of teamwork and assisting fellow players.
