Uzumaki Anime Blu-ray Pre-orders Are Now Live

Junji Ito, often hailed as the “Stephen King of horror manga,” is renowned for his chilling narratives and captivating, nightmarish artwork. Fans of his legendary *Uzumaki* series can now look forward to its anime adaptation, set to release on Blu-ray on September 9th. It will be available in two distinct editions, including an eye-catching Limited Edition Steelbook.

The Limited Edition Steelbook is priced at $35 and features stunning artwork that perfectly encapsulates Ito`s signature style and the terrifying power of spirals. A standard Blu-ray edition of *Uzumaki* will also be available for $20. The steelbook`s cover is truly mesmerizing, and it opens to reveal internal portraits of the characters Shuichi Saito and Kirie Goshima.

The anime adaptation, spanning four episodes, has a total runtime of 96 minutes. It includes bonus materials such as trailers, promotional videos, and an art gallery. While Amazon had a store page as of July 21, pre-orders had not yet officially opened at that time. The standard edition comes in a conventional plastic case with a cardboard sleeve and offers the same on-disc bonus content as the Limited Edition Steelbook.

For those new to the series, *Uzumaki* is an internationally acclaimed horror manga that plunges readers into a town where everything inexplicably transforms into spirals, driving the inhabitants to madness. Protagonists Shuichi Saito and Kirie Goshima find themselves caught in this escalating horror, desperately seeking an escape from the spiraling distortion of bodies and minds. The anime adaptation, first announced in 2019, experienced several delays before its eventual broadcast in late 2024.

These delays were largely attributed to the production studio`s meticulous efforts to faithfully recreate and animate Ito`s incredibly detailed art. However, the anime`s reception has been mixed. While it serves as a serviceable companion piece to the manga, some viewers noted a dip in quality after an admittedly impressive first episode. For some, the true horror might lie in witnessing how a beloved manga is translated to widescreen televisions.

If you`re looking for more animated adaptations of Junji Ito`s stories, consider the *Junji Ito Collection: The Complete Series* Blu-ray. This set features 24 episodes adapted from his *Masterpiece Collection*, *Fragments of Horror*, and *Shiver*.
