Unveiling The Witcher: Legacy – A New Board Game Delving into Kaer Morhen’s Dark Past

A new Witcher board game, three years in development, is set to delve into a pivotal and dramatic event in the franchise`s lore: the Pogrom at Kaer Morhen. This upcoming title is distinct from the highly anticipated The Witcher 4 video game.

Developed by Go On Board and titled The Witcher: Legacy, this board game serves as a sequel to The Witcher: Old World. It will primarily explore the devastating destruction of the School of the Wolf, the fortress where Geralt was trained. This historical event, central to the Witcher books and games, depicts a furious mob besieging Kaer Morhen, leading to the near-annihilation of the Witcher occupants and the almost complete eradication of the last active Witcher school.

The narrative component will be crucial in The Witcher: Legacy. Go On Board confirmed on their Gamefound page that they are collaborating closely with CD Projekt Red on both the gameplay mechanics and the overarching story.

Go On Board revealed that the game`s “script books” will introduce players to events not fully detailed in existing Witcher games or literature. While eager to avoid spoilers, they confirmed that the central theme of the narrative will be the Pogrom itself.

Players will assume the roles of a few Kaer Morhen survivors embarking on a quest to identify and confront those responsible for the Pogrom, seeking vengeance for their fallen brethren. The developers stated that the game will feature a branching, scenario-driven narrative where player decisions will significantly impact the “history of the Continent itself.”

Despite initial similarities to The Witcher: Old World, Go On Board emphasizes that The Witcher: Legacy will deliver a distinct experience. While full details on game mechanics are pending, they highlighted its “campaign-based structure” for deep story immersion and “numerous legacy-style mechanics” that underscore the player`s influential role and the true impact of their choices.

The Witcher: Legacy currently lacks a release date, but Go On Board plans to reveal more information in the upcoming months. Meanwhile, fans can enjoy The Witcher: Old World and its expansions. Additionally, two new Witcher miniature games were released earlier this year, enabling players to battle iconic characters like Geralt and Ciri against figures from other fictional universes.

Updates on The Witcher 4

Regarding The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red recently showcased an Unreal Engine 5 tech demo, providing insights into the next installment of the RPG series. CD Projekt Red has indicated that the game will avoid repetitive “fetch quests” and expressed their hope that players will fully accept Ciri as the primary protagonist.
