Ubisoft Launches Vantage Studios: A New Creative Hub for Top Franchises

Ubisoft has officially unveiled Vantage Studios, a new “creative house” within the company dedicated to overseeing the future development and expansion of its flagship gaming franchises: Assassin`s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.

This initiative represents the subsidiary that Ubisoft and Tencent previously announced earlier this year. The studio will be jointly led by Charlie Guillemot, son of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, and Christophe Derennes. Addressing potential concerns regarding nepotism, Charlie Guillemot emphasized his commitment to the work at hand as his primary focus.

“Vantage Studios will take on the development and expansion of these celebrated brands, building upon Ubisoft`s foundational experience and expertise. It will facilitate shared services and technical resources, all while crucially empowering developers with greater hands-on control over the games they are building.”

The company further stated that Vantage Studios marks a significant initial step in Ubisoft`s ongoing strategic transformation efforts. Concurrent plans are also underway to establish “additional creative houses” and to consolidate its diverse brands and franchises under a unified framework emphasizing shared identity and specialized development expertise.

The Mission of Vantage Studios

Vantage Studios, along with any subsequent “creative houses,” is tasked with a clear directive: to cultivate stronger and deeper connections between game developers and their player communities.

“This streamlined approach allows for both a higher level of autonomy for developers and a shorter pathway between gathering and implementing player feedback, while still offering the benefit of Ubisoft`s established expertise, services, tools, and technological infrastructure.”

Vantage Studios currently comprises dedicated teams working on the Rainbow Six, Assassin`s Creed, and Far Cry franchises. These teams are spread across multiple international locations, including Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia.

Ubisoft concluded its announcement by encouraging the public to “stay alert for future announcements” regarding these developments.

Ubisoft`s Path to This Restructuring

Prior to this announcement, Ubisoft had been navigating a period of financial difficulty, which led to substantial cost-cutting measures. These included widespread layoffs, the closure of several studios, and even the discontinuation of projects such as XDefiant. The company faced criticism from some quarters, being labeled as “poorly managed.” Reports indicated that major industry players like EA and Microsoft had expressed interest in acquiring parts or the entirety of Ubisoft before Tencent`s eventual investment.

In March 2025, Ubisoft formally announced the creation of a new “dedicated subsidiary” specifically focused on Assassin`s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Tencent`s involvement included a substantial investment of over $1 billion to acquire a stake in this new venture. Ubisoft clarified that other segments of its business, encompassing franchises like The Division and Ghost Recon, as well as the development of new intellectual properties, would continue to operate in parallel.

Tencent ultimately emerged as the preferred partner following a “competitive process” during which Ubisoft carefully evaluated various “strategic options.”
