Twisted Metal Season 2 Promises a Bigger, More Cinematic Experience

The highly anticipated second season of the Twisted Metal TV series, based on the popular video game, is set to premiere on Peacock this week. Showrunner MJ Smith has revealed that fans can expect a significantly more “cinematic” experience this time around.

During a press roundtable held on the show`s Toronto set, Smith reflected on the reception of the first season and outlined his ambitions for Season 2. He noted that despite the significant challenges faced during Season 1`s production—including its July 2023 premiere amidst major Hollywood strikes that prevented any promotion by the cast (Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Will Arnett, Samoa Joe) or himself—the feedback indicated they had “done something right.”

Smith expressed satisfaction that audiences connected with the first season despite the circumstances. Building on this positive reception, his vision for Season 2 is to amplify every aspect. He aims to enhance the car action, broaden the comedic elements, make the sets feel more immersive, and generally “take it up a notch” in terms of overall production quality and the show`s distinctive tone.

The shift towards a “more cinematic” Season 2 is largely attributed to a significant upgrade in action sequences and stunt work. Notably, Logan Holladay, known for being Ryan Gosling`s stunt double in `Fall Guy` and for setting a world record for car cannon rolls, has joined the production to contribute to these enhanced visuals.

Smith reiterated the team`s objective: to refine and improve upon the foundations laid in Season 1. He emphasized the desire to capture the thrilling essence of the video game, characterized by its unexpected plot twists and explosive action. “Ultimately,” Smith stated, “we want this to be a genuinely fun show for viewers to experience.”

Twisted Metal Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on July 31, exclusively on Peacock.
