Kalypso Media has officially announced Tropico 7 at Gamescom, confirming its upcoming release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This highly anticipated city-building simulator is also set for a day-one launch on Game Pass. Players can expect to return to their island nation in 2026, seven years after the previous installment, Tropico 6.
In Tropico 7, players will once again embody the iconic El Presidente, tasked with overseeing and developing their island paradise. The sequel introduces exciting new features, including an advanced terraforming system that allows for dramatic landscape alterations, such as the removal of mountains. A revamped political affiliation system offers players more nuanced control over their chosen form of dictatorship, while new council negotiations with faction leaders promise deeper strategic gameplay. This latter element is subtly hinted at in the game`s announcement trailer, showing El Prez in discussions with characters resembling a military general and a hippie.
The development of Tropico 7 is being handled by Kalypso`s in-house studio, Gaming Minds Studio, recognized for their work on franchises like Rail Empire and Port Royale. This marks a shift from Tropico 6, which was developed by Limbic Entertainment before its acquisition by Bandai Namco several years ago.
“With Tropico 7, we open a new chapter in city-building, politics, and economics—giving players more control and complexity than ever, while preserving the mischief and satire fans love.”
— Daniel Dumont, Studio and Creative Director at Gaming Minds Studio
Tropico 7 joins a growing roster of titles confirmed for day-one availability on Game Pass, alongside other recent Gamescom announcements such as High on Life 2, Moonlighter 2, and Denshattack. The subscription service also recently surprised subscribers with the immediate release of Rogue Prince of Persia.
