The acclaimed action RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, developer CD Projekt Red had unveiled plans for a significant final update, promising console players access to a vast array of community-created mods—a feature long enjoyed by the PC gaming community. However, this eagerly awaited cross-platform mod support will not arrive as scheduled this year.
In a recent announcement, CD Projekt Red confirmed that the update`s release has been pushed back, now slated for 2026. The developer expressed apologies to its fanbase for the delay, sharing a statement:
“We originally planned to introduce cross-platform mod support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year, but the rollout is now shifting to 2026. We apologize for the delay and will share more details as we get closer to the release. Thank you for your patience!”
Mods have been a cornerstone of The Witcher 3`s PC experience almost since its initial release. While the upcoming console mod access will come with certain technical and content-based restrictions, the studio anticipates that the majority of mods will be available for free. Players will need to create a mod.io account in conjunction with the update to access this feature.
In other Witcher-related news, a concert series showcasing the music of The Witcher 3 began its U.S. tour earlier this summer and is scheduled to continue through October. Furthermore, CD Projekt Red is currently engaged in the development of The Witcher 4, though a release date remains unannounced. Fans of the broader franchise can also look forward to the fourth season of Netflix`s “The Witcher” series, which premieres on October 30, with Liam Hemsworth stepping into the lead role, succeeding Henry Cavill.
