The Sims 4: Enchanted By Nature – Ailments and How to Cure Them

The latest expansion for The Sims 4, `Enchanted By Nature`, introduces significant changes to the game. These include a new Fairy life state, alternative lifestyles focusing on nature, and a completely new health system feature called Ailments.

Unlike standard illnesses in The Sims 4, which are rare and easily treated with generic medicine, Ailments are a distinct category of affliction. They require specific remedies or intervention from a magical being capable of healing them. While not fatal, Ailments can be quite inconvenient and their effects disruptive, making timely treatment advisable.

How Ailments work

Ailments are contagious conditions spread through contact with infected Sims, inflicted by Fairies, or developing from emotional imbalance. Proximity to a sick Sim increases the chance of infection, as does interacting with objects they`ve used.

Emotional balance, displayed on the Simology tab, plays a key role. Being emotionally imbalanced makes Sims more prone to naturally developing Ailments or catching them from others. Conversely, maintaining balance acts as a defense, strengthening your Sim`s resistance.

What to do when your Sim has an Ailment

When your Sim contracts an Ailment, you have several options. One is to simply let it run its course. Some Ailments have beneficial side effects, such as Luck Magnet, which grants the Sim good fortune by drawing it from others nearby. Gnome Lure can cause sentient garden gnomes to appear, similar to Harvestfest, which Fairies can then enchant with Fairy Dust.

If the negative effects outweigh the benefits, there are four ways to immediately cure an Ailment:

  • Visit a naturopath via phone (costs 1,500 Simoleons)
  • Ask a Fairy (Fairies cannot cure themselves)
  • Visit Moondrop Spring in the Everdew neighborhood of Innisgreen (`Manifest` a cure)
  • Craft a cure at an apothecary table

Crafting your own Ailment cures

Crafting cures for Ailments is straightforward, requiring easily found ingredients. These cures are among the first recipes learned with the Apothecary skill, only needing Level 1 or 2, so no significant grinding is needed. Notably, while Fairies can cure others magically, they cannot cure their own Ailments this way.

To acquire the Apothecary skill, a Sim must simply interact with an apothecary table and `Study Apothecary Cures`. After this, they can craft the initial cures. Reaching Level 2 for other recipes takes just a few more interactions. Ingredients are readily available through foraging in any Sims 4 world or can be purchased directly from the apothecary table itself at low cost, making crafting cures accessible.

  • Creation Impulse: Induces a Dazed moodlet but improves crafting abilities.
  • Emotional Void: Suppresses the Sim`s emotions and affects nearby Sims similarly.
  • Gnome Lure: Causes gnomes to appear near the infected Sim.
  • Greenie Meanie: Enhances gardening skill but makes the Sim irritable.
  • Luck Magnet: Grants the Sim luck by negatively impacting those around them.
  • Simoleon Fever: Causes the Sim to occasionally cough up Simoleons.
  • Sonic Sinuses: Powerful sneezes that may break objects; improves handiness skill for easier repairs.
