The Outer Worlds 2: Price Details and PS5 Physical Edition Preorders

Obsidian`s highly anticipated first-person sci-fi RPG, The Outer Worlds 2, is set to launch on October 29 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Pre-orders are currently open for this sequel, which promises to transport players back to the distinct, retro-futuristic vision of the future that defined the original. Expect new territories to discover, various factions to align with, and unique companions to recruit, all while retaining the series` signature satirical wit and striking art direction.

Initially, The Outer Worlds 2 was projected to be Microsoft`s first Xbox-published title retailing for $80. However, approximately six weeks after its announcement, on July 23, Microsoft revised this pricing strategy. The game`s standard edition is now set at $70. This change aligns The Outer Worlds 2 with other Microsoft-published titles, such as Gears of War: Reloaded and Ninja Gaiden 4, which are also planned for simultaneous release on PS5 later this year.

For a significant portion of Xbox and PC players, the retail price of The Outer Worlds 2 is less relevant, as it will be available via Game Pass from day one. While a month of Game Pass Ultimate costs $20, offering a seemingly cost-effective way to play, access to the game is contingent upon an active subscription. Those who prefer to own the game outright, whether digitally or physically, can opt for the $70 standard edition or the Premium Edition. The Premium Edition provides a season pass, additional DLC, and early access to the full game. Both editions also come with extra incentives for pre-ordering.

Physical game enthusiasts can pre-order boxed copies of both the Standard and Premium Editions for PlayStation 5.

All pre-orders, whether digital or physical, include Commander Zane’s Anti-Monopolistic Battle Pack. This bonus content, available at launch, features:

  • Zane`s Uniform Armor
  • Zane`s Pistol and Dagger weapons
  • A Pet Ed Drone

Furthermore, pre-ordering The Outer Worlds 2 Premium Edition grants players up to five days of early access, allowing them to start playing on October 24.

Standard Edition

The Standard Edition of The Outer Worlds 2 comprises the base game. Early purchases also include the Commander Zane’s Anti-Monopolistic Battle Pack as a pre-order bonus. For those who pre-ordered at the initial $80 price, the final charge will reflect the revised $70 cost.

Premium Edition

The Outer Worlds 2 also offers a Premium Edition, initially priced at $100 (though there`s speculation it might adjust to $90). This edition features a Season Pass, granting access to two post-launch story expansion DLCs. In addition to the Commander Zane’s Anti-Monopolistic Battle Pack, Premium Edition pre-orders provide five-day early access to the full game starting October 24. The Premium Edition includes:

  • The Outer Worlds 2 base game
  • DLC Pass (Story Expansions 1 & 2, post-launch)
  • Moon Man’s Corporate Appreciation Premium Prize Pack (costumes, weapons, bonus pet)
  • Digital Artbook
  • Digital Soundtrack
  • 5-day early access (starting October 24)

For physical collectors, the Premium Edition is available for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Notably, the Xbox Series X physical version comes as a digital code in a box, not a disc, making it the sole “physical” option for Xbox.
