The era of gaming on the iPod, though brief, left behind 54 unique titles designed for its iconic Clickwheel. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of game preservation enthusiasts, these titles have now been rescued from oblivion and compiled into a complete collection.
As reported by Ars Technica, Olsro, the founder of the “iPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project,” successfully completed his mission by tracking down the last missing piece: a copy of “Real Soccer 2009.” The preservation process involved locating iPod owners who still had the original games downloaded and syncing these devices with a master Virtual Machine library. This system now allows other iPod users to access the games at their leisure. Olsro expressed immense relief, stating that the project`s completion means “this whole part from the early 2000s will remain with us forever.”
The Virtual Machine is compatible with iPod Classic 5G, 5.5G, 6G, 6.5G, and 7G models, as well as iPod Nano 3G, 4G, and 5G. Detailed instructions on how to access the Virtual Machine have been provided by Olsro on GitHub. By following these steps, players can enjoy these classic titles on their own iPods.
