During a recent Nintendo Direct livestream, the gaming giant officially confirmed the highly anticipated release of two iconic titles: Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Both beloved space-faring adventures are set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 platform on October 2.
Fans will have the option to purchase these classic games either as a single bundle for $70, or individually for $40 each. This exciting re-release forms a significant part of Nintendo`s grand celebration for the Super Mario 40th Anniversary. The anniversary festivities also include the newly revealed Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which was teased just prior to the game announcements and is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2026.
The Nintendo Direct presentation delivered even more thrilling news for Mario enthusiasts beyond the Galaxy series. Other notable game reveals included Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park, Mario Tennis Fever, and a brand-new adventure featuring Mario`s faithful companion, titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. These titles collectively round out the extensive Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary block of announcements.
For historical context, the original Super Mario Galaxy first captivated players on the Nintendo Wii in 2007, with its critically acclaimed sequel following in 2010. While the first game saw a previous re-release as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars bundle for the 35th anniversary in 2020, this upcoming launch marks the very first time Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be re-issued since its initial debut over a decade ago.
Beyond the Mario universe, the recent Nintendo Direct also brought confirmed release dates for other major titles making their way to the Switch 2. The highly anticipated port of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set for release on January 22, while Hades 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is scheduled to arrive on September 25.
