Sucker Punch Director Nate Fox Expresses Desire for Infamous Franchise Comeback

A Look Back at the Infamous Series and Its Future Prospects

In 2009, Sucker Punch`s Infamous offered players a unique perspective on life with superpowers, departing from traditional comic book adventures. Although no new games have been released in the series since Infamous: Second Son in 2014, Nate Fox, the director of all three franchise titles, expressed a desire to revisit that world. However, this isn`t possible for now, as Sucker Punch is currently busy developing Ghost of Yotei, the upcoming sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.

“I would gladly work on more Infamous games,” Fox stated in an interview with Game Informer. “I would also love to see a trilogy re-release, but Sucker Punch operates on a one-game-at-a-time basis, and right now we are entirely focused on finishing Ghost of Yotei.”

Fox co-directed Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei with Jason Connell, which has essentially kept Sucker Punch occupied for many years. Of the first three Infamous games, only Second Son is available on PS4. The first two installments were released exclusively on PS3, making them excellent candidates for modern remasters should the franchise ever return.

In a 2022 blog post, Sucker Punch stated that they had no plans to revisit either Infamous or their other popular franchise, Sly Cooper. Nevertheless, Ghost of Tsushima included Easter eggs referencing both of Sucker Punch`s previous game series.

When Sony was asked about the future of Infamous in 2015, PlayStation head Scott Rohde declared, “We`re never going to retire an IP. We`re always going to be open to creating more Infamous games.” However, in the nearly 10 years since that interview, the most recent mentions of Infamous have only appeared as Easter eggs in Astro Bot, released in 2024.
