Subnautica 2 Delayed To 2026 As New Trailer Debuts

Subnautica 2`s early access release period, which was recently rumored to be delayed following reported changes in Unknown Worlds` leadership team by parent company Krafton, has now been officially pushed back by Unknown Worlds to 2026. However, the studio did release a new trailer for the game to provide something for fans while they wait.

In a statement on the developer`s official website, Unknown Worlds explained the delay by citing the need to improve several areas identified after a private beta test, stating their desire to make the game stronger. The development team also mentioned that this postponement will allow them to add more biomes, vehicle enhancements, additional tools and creatures, and expand the game`s story.

Interestingly, Charlie Cleveland, the former director and designer of Subnautica 2, recently shared his belief that the game was already ready for early access launch. A report earlier this week suggested another potential reason for the delay: a significant $250 million bonus that Krafton was reportedly set to pay Unknown Worlds if specific financial milestones were met this year. Without Subnautica 2 entering early access in 2025, it`s less likely Unknown Worlds will reach that particular goal.

This financial context might explain why the YouTube comments section under Subnautica 2`s latest trailer is reportedly filled with messages encouraging Krafton to simply pay the $250 million bonus, seemingly advocating for the developers` financial situation over the immediate release of the game itself. It remains to be seen if this public support will influence the situation.

Subnautica 2 is now scheduled for release on Xbox Series X|S and PC sometime in 2026.
