As Xbox expands its game portfolio to other platforms, news has emerged of Bethesda`s first title making its way to Switch 2. Now, rumors suggest that another Bethesda game, Starfield, is also being prepared for release on the handheld console.
The recent Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation included the announcement of a Switch 2 port for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, slated for 2026. According to insider NateTheHate, Starfield will also launch on Nintendo`s new console in the same year.
NateTheHate further claimed that Starfield is indeed coming to PlayStation 5, a rumor that has persisted since its 2023 release. A separate report this month indicates that Starfield is expected to be released on PS5 in spring 2026.
While Bethesda has not officially confirmed multiplatform release plans for Starfield beyond Xbox and PC, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has previously expressed his intention to support the Switch 2. The release of the highly acclaimed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle could be the publisher`s initial move in its Switch 2 strategy.
Beyond Indiana Jones, Bethesda has a strong history of releasing games on the original Switch, including ports of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Doom Eternal, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Microsoft-owned Activision also committed to bringing Call of Duty titles to Nintendo platforms, but there`s no indication yet of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 coming to Switch 2.
The Switch 2 ports of Indiana Jones and Starfield will provide interesting case studies on how current-generation games perform on a handheld platform. On the lower-spec Xbox Series S, Starfield offers multiple performance options, including 30fps and 60fps modes. For Starfield players, the release of a Switch 2 version might also offer hope for Bethesda dedicating additional attention to the game.
