Snag A Last-Minute Prime Day Deal On The Borderlands Movie

Prime Day is a fantastic time for movie lovers, with tons of Blu-rays on sale. As the event wraps up today, you`ll need to move quickly to add new films to your collection. While many critically acclaimed movies are discounted, there`s also the Borderlands adaptation, which has been a bit divisive. Currently, Amazon is offering appealing deals on both the Limited Edition steelbook and the standard 4K release. Both include a standard Blu-ray disc and a digital copy. The live-action film, based on the popular looter-shooter games, didn`t quite match the reception of recent adaptations like HBO`s The Last of Us or The Super Mario Bros. Movie. However, if you`re feeling adventurous (and brave enough), you can grab it yourself to form your own opinion.

The movie adaptation of Borderlands alters some of the game`s lore and characters and is set on the perilous alien planet Pandora. The cast is generally considered miscast. The story follows bounty hunter Lilith (Cate Blanchett) on a mission to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the CEO of a major galactic corporation. When things go wrong, Lilith forms an unlikely crew with Roland (Kevin Hart), Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), Patricia Tannis (Jaime Lee Curtis), and Krieg (Florian Munteanu) to uncover the truth and earn a significant reward.

To be fair, Borderlands isn`t considered a masterpiece. But it`s also not terrible; it serves as a decent `turn your brain off` popcorn movie. It`s visually vibrant and includes many Easter eggs for fans to spot. The 4K/Blu-ray release also comes with the following bonus materials:

  • Borderlands: From Game to Screen featurette
  • Meet the Team featurette
  • All Aboard the Death Choochoo featurette
  • Bringing Borderlands to the Screen featurette
  • Badonkadonk Time featurette
  • Fashion and Action on Pandora featurette
  • High Tech Hellscapes featurette

Perhaps the most notable effect of the Borderlands movie is that it makes *other* video game adaptations seem significantly better by comparison. Conveniently, several of these surprisingly superior films are also discounted for Prime Day, including the Doom movie from the early 2000s. While its timing might have been off regarding the game franchise`s peak popularity, it`s still a solid action film featuring a dependable cast (you might even call it *Rock*-solid). The recent 4K release notably restores much of the gore cut from the theatrical version and is packed with extras.

Looking at animated adaptations, the Final Fantasy 7 sequel, Advent Children, remains an exciting return to Midgar, now enhanced with new content for the definitive version. Five Nights at Freddy`s was another unexpected box office success upon its release, and for a prime example of how to expertly adapt a video game, few can rival the groundbreaking achievement of the Arcane animated series.
