Roblox Adds TikTok-Style Video Feed And New AI Creator Tools

Roblox has introduced “Roblox Moments,” a new TikTok-like social feed enabling users to share short videos captured within their game experiences. This feature, along with an array of AI tools aimed at supporting game developers, was showcased at the Roblox Developers Conference.

Currently in beta, Roblox Moments features vertical videos up to 30 seconds long, mirroring the style of popular platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. Uniquely, these videos are recorded directly within Roblox`s user-created “experiences.” The feed allows seamless navigation, letting viewers instantly access the games highlighted in the videos.

Roblox is significantly investing in artificial intelligence to empower its creators, as reported by Eurogamer. The goal is to automate aspects of game development for independent and small teams. The company announced over 400 AI models in progress, encompassing asset generation, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and automatic translation. A notable innovation is “4D Objects,” an AI tool designed to automate interactive asset creation through simple text prompts.

Roblox stated that achieving its ambition of connecting a billion users necessitates massive-scale content creation worldwide. Recognizing that most successful games are crafted by small teams of fewer than ten, ongoing AI developments, such as text-to-speech capabilities for voicing non-player characters (NPCs), are intended to support these smaller developers.

Recently, Roblox has faced scrutiny from legislators concerning the protection of its predominantly young user base. In response, the platform has committed to enhancing its safety features, including the introduction of age verification for all voice chat users.

Notwithstanding these challenges, Roblox continues to attract a vast audience, with over 111.8 million daily active users, a figure surpassing Steam`s in many estimates. The platform has also boosted its payouts to creators, making it more appealing for developers to build popular experiences.
