The Current State and Player Feedback
After approximately one month since its release, Remedy Entertainment has outlined its strategy to attract more players to FBC: Firebreak, particularly before its significant September update. Although the game is available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, its player engagement figures have been concerning. From a launch-day peak of 1,992 concurrent players, the average has dropped to fewer than 100.
Remedy acknowledged in a blog post that a primary concern is the game`s initial hour, which has frequently drawn criticism from players. The studio noted, “Many players start the game but disengage within the first hour. This is because the early experience can be frustrating; players often feel ineffective and uncertain about their objectives. This aspect clearly requires enhancement.”
Planned Improvements for a Better Experience
The developer plans to refine the onboarding process by integrating an introductory video and enhancing the tutorial with more effective pop-up tips. This aims to help players better understand their role, identity, and goals within the Firebreak organization.
Regarding gameplay, Remedy seeks to balance traditional first-person shooter combat with the use of Crisis Kit tools, offering players greater control over their progression. This includes introducing three new heavy weapons and replacing “generic” equipment upgrades with a comprehensive Mod System for weapon customization.
Forthcoming changes also encompass refinements to the “Jobs” system and the introduction of dynamic objectives. Remedy stated, “We are adding a new handcrafted level, three distinct Zones, a new status effect, two additional enemy types, and other content typical of a new `Job` assignment.”
Remedy`s Commitment to Evolution
While acknowledging that plans may evolve, the studio anticipates that the first Major Update will bring substantial enhancements to FBC: Firebreak. Remedy has been transparent about the reception of its three-player cooperative shooter, and despite a less-than-ideal launch, the team asserts its ongoing dedication to refining and developing the game.
