Quantic Dream Confirms Star Wars: Eclipse Remains Actively in Development

Fans eager for French developer Quantic Dream`s forthcoming Star Wars Eclipse can finally relax, as the studio officially confirmed today that the game is still moving forward. First announced in 2021, the title has been subject to various speculations due to a notable lack of updates since its reveal.

“Of course, development of Star Wars: Eclipse continues, and we are eager to share more with you in the future,” the developer affirmed in a recent blog post, directly addressing concerns about the project`s status.

Setting and Narrative Design

The game is set in the High Republic era, a period that predates all the iconic Star Wars films. This historical backdrop portrays the Galactic Republic at the height of its power and prosperity, yet also introduces unique galactic threats that players will be tasked with confronting.

According to the game`s description, players will experience the vast galaxy through the perspectives of “an ensemble cast of multiple, charismatic playable characters.” Each character is designed with distinct morality, personality, motivations, and will significantly impact both one another and the overarching narrative. The adventure will take players to an unexplored region of the galaxy located in the Outer Rim. Moreover, the game will introduce a host of new characters, and consistent with Quantic Dream`s renowned style, it will feature a deeply branching narrative heavily influenced by player dialogue choices and moral decisions.

Collaborations and Other Projects

Star Wars: Eclipse is a collaborative endeavor between Quantic Dream, Lucasfilm, and Disney. This partnership is particularly noteworthy given recent news of other Disney-affiliated game projects facing cancellation, such as EA`s Black Panther title on the Marvel side.

In addition to their work on Star Wars Eclipse, Quantic Dream is also developing its first multiplayer game, titled Spellcasters Chronicles. A closed beta test for this new venture is scheduled for later this year.

Studio Growth and History

To support its expanding array of projects, Quantic Dream has substantially increased its operational capacity, doubling the size of its development team since 2018 and establishing a new studio in Montreal. The studio itself underwent an acquisition by the Chinese tech conglomerate NetEase in 2022.

Since its inception in 1997, Quantic Dream has built a strong reputation for crafting immersive, narrative-driven experiences. Their acclaimed portfolio includes titles such as The Nomad Soul, Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human.
