The beloved iconic starter Pokémon from the Johto region—Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile—are officially set to make their debut in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. This exciting arrival is part of the upcoming “Wisdom of Sea and Sky” expansion, scheduled for launch on July 29. Beyond the starters, this significant update will also introduce the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh and Lugia, alongside a vast collection of 200 brand-new cards.
An official announcement released on the Pokémon website confirms that the Pokémon TCG Pocket update will go live at 11 PM PT on July 29, which translates to 2 AM ET on July 30. The expansion`s reveal trailer also teased the inclusion of other new Pokémon such as Pichu and Cleffa, as well as familiar Johto trainers including Lyra and Silver.
In addition to new card content, the “Wisdom of Sea and Sky” expansion will bring a major overhaul to Pokémon TCG Pocket`s existing trading system. A key change is the removal of Trade Tokens; players will now utilize a new resource called Shinedust to facilitate trades. The Pokémon Company further detailed that with this update, players will gain the ability to create a wishlist of up to 20 specific cards they hope to acquire through trading.
This steady stream of content updates for the game continues a consistent release cadence. Prior to “Wisdom of Sea and Sky,” Pokémon TCG Pocket received the “Eevee Grove” expansion just last month, and the “Extradimensional Crisis” expansion arrived in May, showcasing the game`s ongoing development.
In related news, a recent Pokémon Presents livestream offered a glimpse into other upcoming Pokémon projects. This included the revelation of PokePark Kanto, a new Pokémon-themed park slated to open next year, and a new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which prominently featured the vibrant community of Lumiose City.
