Pokemon Go Revamps Leveling System

Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, has announced significant upcoming changes to the mobile game`s leveling system. Starting in October, progression will be completely revamped, promising players a more meaningful experience and new rewards. The maximum level will be substantially increased from 50 to 80.

The update goes live on October 15. Existing players` levels will be automatically adjusted based on their total accumulated XP, with Niantic assuring that no one will lose a previously achieved level. For a limited time, XP bonuses and a special Timed Research event will be available.

Key Changes to Progression:

  • The level cap increases from 50 to 80.
  • Level-Up Research tasks for levels 41 to 50 will be removed.
  • New Level-Up Research tasks will be added for levels 71 to 80.
  • Players at level 70 and higher will have an increased chance of becoming “Lucky Friends.”
  • New rewards will be introduced for leveling up, such as expanded storage capacity for Pokemon, items, and gifts.
  • New avatar items will be available for earning starting at level 25.

Players whose levels increase after the update will receive corresponding rewards, details of which Niantic plans to reveal later. It`s important to note that until October 14, players have the opportunity to earn exclusive items by reaching levels 40-50, including a Level 50 Jacket and a new avatar pose. These items will no longer be available once the new system is implemented.

Limited-Time XP Bonuses:

Until October 14, special bonuses are active to help players level up more quickly:

  • 2x Catch XP from Nice, Great, and Excellent throws.
  • +3,000 XP from winning raids.
  • +3,000 XP from winning Max Battles.

Additionally, temporary quests will be available, offering up to 7 million additional XP. The Level 47 Research task will be simplified: instead of completing 25km eight times a week, players will only need to do so twice.

A reminder that Pokemon Go`s current “Delightful Days” season is drawing to a close. This month featured debuts such as Gigantamax Butterfree and Shadow Kyogre. There are still a few days left to participate in the Dynamax Chansey raid.
