PlayStation Family App Gives Parents Control Over What Their Kids Play And Buy

Sony has introduced a new application, the PlayStation Family App, specifically designed to empower parents by providing them with robust tools to manage and monitor their children`s gaming activities on PlayStation consoles.

Available globally for free on both iOS and Android platforms starting today, the PlayStation Family App seamlessly connects to a PlayStation device within the household. This allows parents to set up real-time notifications for when a child logs in, establish precise playtime limits, and either approve or decline requests for extended gaming sessions. Furthermore, the app gives parents the authority to restrict which specific games their children are permitted to access, ensuring age-appropriate content.

In addition, the application provides detailed activity reports, offering comprehensive insights into daily and weekly gaming sessions. Parents can also impose spending caps on purchases made through the PlayStation Store, helping to manage in-game expenses. Comprehensive privacy settings are available, allowing parents to customize their child`s access to social networking features and online interactions.

Sony stated that this new mobile app marks “just the beginning,” indicating plans to continuously introduce enhancements and evolve the PlayStation Family App`s functionality over time to better serve families.

The launch of this app occurs amidst ongoing scrutiny of the popular game Roblox by legislators, who frequently allege that the platform lacks sufficient child protection measures, highlighting a broader industry trend towards parental control solutions.

This initiative from Sony follows similar efforts by competitors in the gaming market; Microsoft, for example, introduced its Xbox Family Settings app over five years ago, offering a suite of comparable features. Likewise, the recently released Switch 2 console also boasts robust parental control functionalities, managed conveniently via its own dedicated application.

Separately, there are reports circulating that the next major PlayStation event, possibly a “State of Play” broadcast, will take place this month, potentially revealing new information about the highly anticipated Wolverine game.
