The latest update for the game Peak, version 1.27.a, introduces significant improvements for players with less powerful hardware, alongside new accessibility features and various game adjustments. This patch primarily aims to enhance performance, particularly for those experiencing issues on lower-end computers, while players continue to explore the new Mesa biome.
A key addition is a new Texture Quality graphics setting. Highly requested by the community, this option allows users with limited VRAM to reduce texture fidelity, which can significantly mitigate problems like low framerates, graphical glitches, and game crashes. Team Peak assures that the visual impact of this lower setting is minimal, making it a valuable option for performance optimization.
Furthermore, DX11 graphics API support has been integrated, complementing the existing DX12 and Vulkan options. Although the developers acknowledge that its effectiveness might vary across different hardware configurations, they encourage players struggling with the other APIs to test DX11, hoping it will offer performance benefits for some. The update also makes the Render Scale options more impactful, ensuring that `Medium` or `Low` settings provide a more noticeable boost in performance.
In terms of accessibility, a new Photosensitive Mode has been implemented. This mode reduces the intensity of various visual effects that could be problematic for players with photosensitivity. Specifically, it lessens the flashiness of dynamite, flare, and Scout Cannon fuse effects, reduces screen shake, disables bright lights from dynamite explosions, and softens fullscreen visual effects from damage, Energy Drink, Lollipop, and Heat Pack consumption.
Additional Patch Details:
Beyond performance and accessibility, the patch includes several other adjustments:
- Map Rotation: The Alpine and Mesa maps will now alternate daily, with the secret entrance in Mesa appearing 50% of the time (up from 25%) to compensate for its less frequent rotation.
- The Kiln`s Lava: A previously known issue with The Kiln`s rising lava has been reintroduced. The developers were unable to replicate the bug internally and are re-enabling it to gather more player reports for a definitive fix. If the lava becomes desynced, players are encouraged to send video or logs!
- Balance Changes:
- The waiting time before lava rises has been extended by 1 minute.
- The time it takes for lava to reach the top once it starts is increased by 3 minutes.
- Minor Fixes: Includes resolving an issue where players could pocket unpocketable items while climbing, replacing bee sounds in Bug Phobia Mode, and raising fog wall heights again to prevent a specific Cannon exploit.
- Passport Customization: Players can now change their sash in the Passport to any they’ve unlocked via ascents.
This comprehensive update aims to make Peak more accessible and enjoyable for a wider range of players, addressing critical technical concerns while refining gameplay elements.
