Waiting can be a truly tedious experience, especially when there’s a complete lack of engaging activities. This common sentiment was a driving force behind Landfall Games’ latest innovation for Peak: the `DillyDally` update. This update cleverly introduces a variety of mini-activities into the game`s airport lobbies, specifically designed to entertain players as they await their fellow climbers. Among the additions are a basketball hoop, a photo booth, and a set of chess pieces.
While the chess pieces were ostensibly meant for casual play, players immediately found remarkably unconventional uses for them, diverging significantly from the traditional rules of the classic game. As shared by user Imanthony89 on the Peak subreddit:
“My friend and I got bored after we finished a climb… Used all the chess pieces and bing bong. That`s a queen and a few pawns above the rafters.”
In the wake of the update’s release last week, social media platforms were quickly flooded with impressive user-created structures. Players were stacking chess pieces to astonishing, ceiling-high levels within the virtual airport lobby. Peak’s dynamic physics system, already celebrated for enabling comical and often unpredictable antics during the main climbs, proved to be perfectly suited for these impromptu, creative lobby endeavors by the game`s `scouts`.
The game’s lobbies are distinctively themed as airport waiting areas, a narrative choice stemming from a playful loading-screen animation that depicts a plane crash, humorously initiating players and their friends on their challenging quest to conquer a procedurally generated mountain. Considering the often-arduous nature of these climbs, it makes perfect sense that players are now equipped with entertaining ways to pass the time while in the terminal.
Since its immensely successful launch in June, Landfall Games, in collaboration with publisher Aggro Crab, has consistently provided updates for Peak. For instance, a major expansion in August unveiled the `Mesa` biome, a harsh environment complete with swirling tornadoes, scorching heat, and dangerous scorpions. While hints of another new biome have been teased, specific confirmed details are yet to be officially revealed.
