Freddy Krueger, the terrifying killer who haunts victims in their dreams, is one of the most recognizable villains in the horror genre. For fans wanting the complete seven-film collection in 4K Steelbook format, a special edition of the A Nightmare on Elm Street 4K Blu-ray is being prepared. It is already available for preorder exclusively on Amazon for $175. The release date and cover art have not yet been revealed.
This new collection includes steelbook editions of all seven films with unique art, a numbered certificate of authenticity, and 3D glasses (likely for the final film, Freddy`s Dead). While the original film was already available in 4K, this marks the first time the rest of the series receives the ultra-high definition upgrade. Bonus features from previous Blu-ray releases are expected.
“A Nightmare on Elm Street” earned its place on the Mount Rushmore of 80s slashers. The main antagonist, Freddy Krueger, was nearly unstoppable, taking victims` lives from within their dreams by essentially scaring them to death. A serial killer back from beyond the grave, Krueger, as portrayed by actor Robert Englund, cemented his status as one of the greatest horror movie characters of all time, alongside icons like Jason Voorhees from “Friday the 13th” and Michael Myers from “Halloween”.
If you don`t want to wait for the new 4K Steelbook collection and are content with the 1080p format, you can purchase the previously released “A Nightmare on Elm Street” Blu-ray collection. This set includes all seven films on Blu-ray discs, along with a wealth of bonus content such as retrospectives, documentaries, and two episodes of the anthology horror series “Freddy`s Nightmares,” hosted by Krueger himself. A 4K version of just the original “A Nightmare on Elm Street” film is also available.
To complement the main collection, you can also purchase “Freddy vs. Jason” on Blu-ray. The meeting of these two horror icons was long stuck in development hell, but in 2003, Freddy finally clashed with Jason. While not the scariest film, “Freddy vs. Jason” is undeniably an entertaining showdown between these terrifying powerhouses. The documentary “Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy” is also highly recommended. This extensive work examines Freddy`s origins and impact over the decades. Released in 2010, this look back at the creation of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is interspersed with interviews from the cast and crew, including the late Wes Craven, the franchise creator, and features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
