Hideo Kojima, a director celebrated for crafting games that often elicit strong, polarized reactions, indicates that his upcoming venture, OD, will continue this trend. In a recent interview with Ssense, Kojima shared that players will be surprised and have profound feelings about the title. He described the game as “something entirely different,” adding that “people will love it or hate it.”
Kojima conveyed minimal concern regarding the immediate public reception of OD upon its release. He believes the true measure of the game`s impact will only become evident much later, perhaps even decades from now. “The genuine evaluations will come after—10 or 20 years from now,” Kojima stated.
The collaboration between Kojima and Microsoft for OD appears to be unaffected by Microsoft`s recent review of its game portfolio, which resulted in several project cancellations. The celebrated writer-director previously characterized OD as an unparalleled gaming experience. He explained, “While I cannot delve into extensive details, it is also quite challenging to articulate. However, it represents a somewhat daring and novel challenge for me within the gaming sphere.”
For the development of OD, Kojima is partnering with the acclaimed Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele. The game is set to feature performances from talented actors including Hunter Schafer, Sophia Lillis, and Udo Kier.
In addition to OD, Kojima Productions is also working on another title: Physint, an espionage-themed game. Outside of the gaming realm, Kojima is producing a Death Stranding film in collaboration with A24. His most recent gaming release, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, launched in June.
