While players await the arrival of Call of Duty on Nintendo Switch, a game with a surprisingly similar name but an entirely different concept is already available on the console: Cats on Duty.
Publisher ESDigital Games has announced that Prikol Team`s Cats on Duty is now available for Switch. The title was previously released in late June for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
This unique game is a hybrid of real-time strategy (RTS), tower defense, and match-three mechanics. In it, teams of “battle-hardened felines” fight against hordes of zombies. Players must defend their territory and combine tiles to earn upgrades.
As stated in the game`s description: “Prepare for epic cat fights, playful antics, and adorable meows as your feline warriors showcase their unique personalities and unleash special abilities. Brace yourself for a blend of sass and strategy that will keep you entertained throughout the battles.”
The developers of Cats on Duty note that they drew inspiration from games like Plants vs. Zombies and Tower Swap.
Regarding Call of Duty on Switch, Activision has confirmed its intent to release the series on Nintendo`s console, though specific dates remain unannounced. It also remains unclear whether both the current Switch model and the future Switch 2 would be supported.
In 2023, during the FTC vs. Microsoft court case, Microsoft announced it had signed a “binding 10-year legal agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo players.” According to the statement, Microsoft is committed to launching Call of Duty on Nintendo platforms “on the same day as Xbox, with full features and content parity.”
Activision has bypassed Nintendo platforms for Call of Duty for over a decade; the last release was a port of Call of Duty: Ghosts for Wii U in 2013. The Call of Duty franchise has a long and sometimes peculiar history with Nintendo, and this marks just the latest chapter in that story.
