The extensive library of classic games available through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is set to receive exciting new additions to its Game Boy Advance collection. For the first time ever, two third-party titles will be joining the service.
Starting September 25, subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will be able to dive into the acclaimed side-scrolling adventure, Klonoa: Empire of Dreams, and the engaging puzzle game, Mr. Driller 2. Both these beloved titles hail from Namco (now known as Bandai Namco). This marks a significant milestone, as all 25 GBA titles previously available on Nintendo Classics were published exclusively by Nintendo itself, making these two Namco gems the inaugural third-party entries in the GBA catalog.
Originally launched in 2001, Klonoa: Empire of Dreams features Namco`s cherished mascot, Klonoa, embarking on a quest to defeat four formidable monsters after a peculiar ban on dreaming. Gameplay primarily involves Klonoa utilizing his unique Wind Ring to overcome enemies, solve intricate puzzles, and collect stars throughout his adventure. The Klonoa franchise has seen limited activity in recent years, with its last major release being a 2008 remake for the Wii, followed by remasters of the first two games in 2022.
Mr. Driller 2, a 2000 title from Namco, serves as a direct sequel to the popular arcade puzzle game Mr. Driller. Players navigate by strategically drilling through colorful blocks, aiming to reach their objective while carefully managing their diminishing air supply. It is worth noting that both Mr. Driller 2 and Klonoa: Empire of Dreams have previously been re-released as part of the Wii U`s Virtual Console service, so this isn`t their first re-appearance.
This exciting announcement follows closely on the heels of Nintendo`s most recent Direct presentation, which surprised many fans with the revelation that Virtual Boy games are also slated to join the Nintendo Classics service. All 14 titles from the cult-classic Virtual Boy library are scheduled for release on February 17, 2026, though they will necessitate a special accessory for optimal play.
