Nintendo has released a new update for the Switch 2 console, version 20.2.0, on July 14. This update addresses problems related to parental control settings and internet connectivity.
According to the official patch notes, a significant fix in this update ensures that parental control configurations from the original Switch are now correctly transferred to the Switch 2 during a system migration. Furthermore, players previously stuck on the `Searching for networks` screen will find this issue resolved. Nintendo also mentioned `general system stability improvements` without delving into specific enhancements.
Independent analysis by datamining specialist Oatmealdome revealed further undisclosed improvements. These include better backward compatibility for original Switch games, with a notable example being enhanced performance for Portal 2 on the new console.
This July 14 update marks only the third official patch for the Switch 2 since its launch in early June. The console received a substantial day-one update with new features, followed by another stability-focused patch on June 18. This latest update comes shortly before the release of Nintendo`s anticipated title, Donkey Kong Bananza, scheduled for July 17.
In related news, Sony`s PlayStation 5 also recently received an update, though its impact appears minimal.
Meanwhile, speculation is growing about an imminent Nintendo Direct presentation, although no official announcement has been made by Nintendo.
