Nintendo Switch 2 Sets Unprecedented Sales Record in Japan

Nintendo`s Switch 2 has reportedly achieved an unprecedented milestone by setting a new first-month hardware sales record in Japan. The console has sold over 1.5 million units, clearly outperforming previous market leaders like the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation 2.

These impressive sales figures for Nintendo`s innovative hybrid console were reported by Famitsu, citing data from Yomiuri, and corroborated by VGC. According to Famitsu, which has been meticulously gathering sales data from thousands of retail outlets since 1996, the official count of Switch 2 systems sold in Japan stands at 1,538,260.

Notably, the previous record for first-month sales was held by another Nintendo console, the Game Boy Advance. Launched in 2001, the GBA sold an impressive 1,367,433 units, maintaining its top position for nearly 25 years until the arrival of the Switch 2. Other consoles that had strong debuts in the Japanese market include the Nintendo DS, which sold over 1.2 million units, and the PS2, with more than 1.1 million units.

The Switch 2 made its global debut on June 5. Shortly after its launch, Nintendo announced that the console had rapidly sold over 3.5 million units worldwide within just four days, establishing itself as the company`s fastest-selling console to date. However, Nintendo has not released any updated global sales figures since that initial announcement.

In related news, Nintendo recently unveiled a new Switch 2 bundle that will include the highly anticipated game Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for an October release at a price of $500. A similar bundle featuring Mario Kart World is currently available for the Switch 2. For an in-depth look at the console, readers can refer to GameSpot`s hardware review of the Switch 2.
