Nintendo`s announced price increases for select Switch hardware and accessories are beginning to take effect, with many items seeing price hikes ahead of the official August 3rd date. Notably, the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con two-packs, initially set to rise from $95 to $100, are currently available at Target for a discounted price of $90. This $5, potentially $10, saving only appears once the item is added to the cart.
Price Changes for Controllers and Accessories
While many controllers are becoming more expensive, some Joy-Con related accessories, such as the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip ($40), Joy-Con 2 Racing Wheels ($25), and Joy-Con 2 wrist straps ($14), are not subject to these price adjustments.
For the original Switch and Switch OLED, Joy-Con Controllers are increasing from $80 to $90. Similarly, the original Switch Pro Controller is climbing from $70 to $80, though the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller maintains its $85 price point for now.
Introducing the Joy-Con 2 Controllers
The new Joy-Con 2 Controllers, while slightly larger than their predecessors, retain core features like motion controls, improved HD Rumble, and NFC support for Amiibo. They introduce new functionalities such as a mouse mode, supported by upcoming titles like Civilization VII and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The right Joy-Con 2 also features a new `C` button for the Switch 2`s GameChat.
Quality-of-life improvements include larger, more ergonomic bumpers for single Joy-Con use, and a magnetic attachment mechanism to the console, replacing the older mechanical click. A set typically includes both left and right Joy-Con 2 Controllers and a pair of wrist straps. Individual Joy-Con 2 controllers can also be purchased for $55 each. The left Joy-Con 2 comes with a light blue wrist strap, while the right includes a light red strap and is notable for its GameChat button.
