The Nintendo Switch 2 console is demonstrating impressive sales figures, breaking records in the US and globally. According to research firm Circana, 2.4 million Switch 2 units were sold in the US during its first three months on the market, surpassing the previous record set by the PlayStation 4 (2.2 million in the same period). This establishes the Switch 2 as the fastest-selling home console in US history for such a short timeframe.
Mat Piscatella, Circana`s executive director, noted that Switch 2 sales are pacing 77% ahead of the original Nintendo Switch during their respective initial three months. The new console`s success has contributed to a significant increase in consumer spending, rising by 11% in August 2025 compared to the previous year. For hardware alone, console spending climbed 32% to $312 million.
Not only is the Switch 2 thriving, but it is also offsetting sales declines for other platforms like PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and even the original Switch, all of which have faced price increases. Within a week of its launch, the Switch 2 had already become the fastest-selling home console worldwide. By early August, Nintendo reported 6 million units sold globally, with plans to reach 15 million by March 2026, underscoring its market dominance and the overall positive momentum it brings to the gaming industry.
