Nintendo Switch 2 Breaks 17-Year US Hardware Sales Record

The Nintendo Switch 2 has made an incredibly strong debut, significantly boosting hardware sales in the US. According to Circana, the hybrid console`s launch in June drove total US hardware spending to an unprecedented $978 million, far surpassing the previous record of $608 million set 17 years ago in June 2008.

Mat Piscatella, Circana`s executive director, announced that the Switch 2 achieved the highest first-month console sales in US history. Launched on June 5, Nintendo`s new system reportedly sold 1.6 million units in its first month, comfortably exceeding the PlayStation 4`s previous record of 1.1 million units sold in November 2013. Notably, the Switch 2 accomplished this feat outside the typical holiday shopping season, which usually sees the highest spending in the video game sector.

While Nintendo has not yet provided an official update on Switch 2 hardware sales beyond its initial announcement of over 3.5 million units sold in just four days, Famitsu recently reported that the console also shattered the first-month hardware sales record in Japan. There, the system reportedly sold more than 1.5 million units, breaking the Game Boy Advance`s nearly 25-year-old record.

Moving forward, Nintendo aims to maintain this impressive momentum for the Switch 2. The company recently unveiled a $500 holiday bundle for the console, which includes the game Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
