Nintendo’s Second Quirky Baby Short Features Pikmin

Nintendo has released a second cryptic animated short featuring a baby, now incorporating Pikmin characters. In this new video, the tiny creatures are shown manipulating various objects like blocks, toys, and a pacifier within a room. Despite these intriguing teasers, Nintendo has yet to announce any new video game, film, or television series associated with these shorts.

The latest animation, available on the Nintendo Today app, is titled `Close to You,` mirroring the first peculiar short released yesterday. The primary difference in this second installment is the appearance of blue, yellow, and red Pikmin, who are depicted as the playful culprits behind the minor disturbances in the baby`s room. Beyond the presence of these creatures, both videos are remarkably similar and offer no hints about any upcoming Pikmin-related projects.

Earlier this year, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Pikmin franchise, had voiced his interest in developing a Pikmin movie or TV series. Miyamoto has previously contributed to the production of Pikmin animated shorts, which Nintendo compiles on a dedicated section of its website.

The Pikmin franchise boasts a nearly quarter-century history, commencing with the original Pikmin game for Nintendo GameCube in 2001. The strategy series` most recent main entry was Pikmin 4 for the Switch in 2023, though it has also expanded into spin-offs. Notable examples include the mobile application Pikmin Bloom, released in 2021, and Pikmin Finder, launched in 2023.

Regarding cinematic endeavors, Nintendo recently disclosed that the follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, scheduled for an April 3 theater debut. Initial speculation had suggested that yesterday`s animated short might feature a baby Rosalina, potentially hinting at this forthcoming animated film.
