Nintendo Is Ending The Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers Program

As the era of the Nintendo Switch 2 begins, Nintendo is making strategic policy adjustments for its console ecosystem. One significant change that affects consumers is the permanent discontinuation of the Nintendo Switch Game Voucher program, effective January 30, 2026.

The Game Voucher initiative provided Switch owners with a cost-saving option to pre-purchase two eligible digital games. For $100, users could acquire two vouchers, whereas buying two first-party titles individually typically costs $120. The program included many popular Nintendo first-party releases such as Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Nintendo officially confirmed the program`s cessation on its support website, stating that the ability to purchase Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers will end at 11:59 PM Pacific Time on January 30, 2026. However, the announcement clarifies that any vouchers purchased up until this final date will remain valid and redeemable for a full 12 months from their original purchase date.

A statement from Nintendo confirmed the terms for existing vouchers: “Game vouchers remain valid for 12 months from purchase, with no change to their expiration terms.” This means, for instance, a voucher bought on the last day the program is active, January 30, 2026, can still be redeemed for a game anytime up to January 30, 2027.

Nintendo had previously indicated that vouchers bought through this program would not be transferable or usable for purchasing games on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. As of now, Nintendo has not announced a similar discount or voucher program for its next-generation hardware.
