Nintendo Insists Mario and Princess Peach Are Strictly ‘Good Friends’

Many assumed a romantic spark between Mario and Princess Peach, but a recent update on Nintendo`s official app clarifies their relationship: the courageous plumber and the Mushroom Kingdom`s sovereign are merely “good friends.”

A recent profile of Princess Peach featured in Nintendo`s news application pointedly omitted any romantic connection with Mario, stating instead, “Princess Peach and Mario are good friends and help each other out whenever they can.”

This official declaration raises questions: Is Nintendo attempting to redefine a long-standing implied romance? Were Peach`s numerous kisses to Mario over the years simply platonic gestures? Although the app`s daily updates have since removed the post, eagle-eyed users captured screenshots, sparking widespread discussion across social media platforms.

While direct overt romantic evidence, beyond occasional cheek kisses, is sparse, one might argue that repeatedly saving a “good friend” from menacing turtle-dragons and besieged castles seems like an extraordinary effort for a purely platonic bond.

In a notable moment at the conclusion of Super Mario Odyssey, Mario himself proposed to Peach, suggesting his feelings extend beyond mere friendship. Peach, however, declined, likely due to the recent traumatic experience of being kidnapped and almost forcibly married by Bowser. Mario, perhaps, misread the moment; she clearly needed some personal space.

Nevertheless, asserting that Mario and Peach are only friends seems rather implausible. Consider the numerous instances of Peach kissing Mario captured in various montages (some with millions of views). Would a “good friend” regularly bestow kisses upon someone over decades? While platonic friendships vary, such repeated affectionate gestures typically suggest a deeper connection.

It appears Mario and Peach are now in a similar ambiguous category as Link and Zelda – two Nintendo pairs whose relationship is widely implied to be romantic but never officially confirmed. Thanks for the clarity, Nintendo!
