A new report sheds light on the reasons behind the console`s release postponements, prioritizing quality over speed.
Prior to this year, the release date of the Nintendo Switch 2 console was a subject of intense speculation. For fans, the wait concluded in early June. However, a recent report indicates that Nintendo repeatedly postponed the launch of Switch 2, despite the dissatisfaction expressed by third-party companies.
According to Bloomberg, the primary reason Nintendo did not rush Switch 2 to market was due to requests from its designers. They sought extended deadlines for the launch titles to ensure their perfection. Nintendo prioritized this objective, disregarding concerns from third-party publishers and the prolonged anticipation of fans.
Earlier this summer, it was reported that even months after the console`s launch, Switch 2 development kits remain scarce among third-party companies. This scarcity is believed to be a contributing factor to the lack of official announcements for some third-party Switch 2 games. Furthermore, Nintendo`s own launch titles for Switch 2 significantly outsold third-party games, surpassing all expectations.
Last month, Nintendo released a statement expressing regret over the scarcity of Switch 2. The company confirmed that over 6 million Switch 2 consoles were sold by the first week of August, with approximately 2 million units distributed in North America alone.
Currently, the Switch 2 stands as the only major modern console that has not experienced a price increase due to tariffs. Nevertheless, this situation could potentially change in 2026.
