Gearbox Software has unveiled a new character short for the upcoming looter-shooter, Borderlands 4. Titled “Yolt,” the video introduces Rafa the Exo-Soldier just before he severs ties with the morally dubious Tediore Corporation. The short also showcases some of his abilities, including the “Arc Blades” – powerful energy swords that emerge from his exosuit.
Early in the short, Rafa proudly displays his new exoskeleton during a Tediore Corp. presentation. The situation darkens when his commanding officer reveals the suit`s finer points – such as its ability to function even after the wearer`s death – along with the company`s drive to cut costs. The ensuing chaos is comically brutal; Rafa instantly transitions from standing at attention to engaging in combat and annihilating enemies.
What`s noteworthy about Rafa`s short is its distinctly darker tone. While the events still align with the typical Borderlands humor, there`s a clear seriousness to the themes being explored. It`s possible that Borderlands 4 will offer fans not only plenty of laughs but also a compelling character-driven narrative.
Borderlands 4 is set to launch on September 12 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version arriving on October 3, 2025.
