Netflix`s “Assassin`s Creed” series, announced nearly five years ago, is finally moving forward with production.
Netflix has officially given the green light to the project, revealing that Robert Patino (known for his work on “Westworld” and “Sons of Anarchy”) and David Wiener (recognized for “Halo” and “The Killing”) will lead the series as creators, showrunners, and executive producers. This development follows the departure of the previous showrunner, Jeb Stuart, in 2023, reportedly due to “differences in creative vision.”
The official synopsis describes “Assassin`s Creed” as an intense, high-octane thriller centered on a covert war between two enigmatic factions. One faction aims to dictate humanity`s future through control and manipulation, while the other valiantly fights to uphold free will. The series is set to follow its characters through significant historical events as they strive to shape the course of humankind`s destiny.

In a joint statement, Wiener and Patino expressed their long-standing admiration for the “Assassin`s Creed” franchise, having been fans since its inaugural release in 2007. They added that they are “excited and humbled by the vast possibilities that Assassin`s Creed opens to us.”
“Beyond the grand scope, thrilling spectacle, intense parkour, and exhilarating action, lies the core of a profoundly human narrative—one about individuals seeking purpose, confronting questions of identity, destiny, and faith. It delves into themes of power, violence, sex, greed, and vengeance. However, most importantly, this series champions the invaluable essence of human connection, transcending cultures and the boundaries of time,” they affirmed.
The “Assassin`s Creed” series remains in its early production stages, with no details yet released regarding its cast or an official premiere date.
Prior to this, 20th Century Fox released a live-action “Assassin`s Creed” film in 2016, starring Michael Fassbender, which earned over $240 million worldwide.
In addition to this new live-action adaptation, Netflix is also developing an animated series based on “Assassin`s Creed.” Furthermore, Ubisoft is actively creating a new “Assassin`s Creed” game specifically for the Netflix Games platform.
