Monster Hunter Wilds Expansion Released Early After Sales Slump

Monster Hunter Wilds began its journey successfully in early 2025, aiming to become one of the year`s top-selling games. However, Capcom`s franchise has recently encountered significant challenges due to declining sales. This is likely why the publisher decided to release the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion earlier than initially planned.

The release of the Wilds expansion has been moved from late September to August 13. This update will introduce a new difficulty level, a revamped reward system, weapon balance adjustments, and more.

Capcom also released its quarterly report for investors, and the figures for Monster Hunter Wilds do not look very optimistic. Between April 1 and June 30, only 477,000 copies of Wilds were sold, which is only slightly more than its predecessor, Monster Hunter Rise (389,000 copies). During the same period, Devil May Cry 5 surpassed Monster Hunter Wilds in sales, reaching 1,782,000 copies, possibly due to the release of its Netflix anime adaptation.

According to Capcom`s report, Monster Hunter Wilds has sold 10,585,000 copies since its launch earlier this year. Nevertheless, there have already been signs of player dissatisfaction, especially concerning the PC version. Earlier this summer, Monster Hunter World had more active players on Steam than Wilds. Players also left numerous negative reviews on Steam, citing performance issues and a lack of endgame content.

Following Capcom`s recent major update, the number of Monster Hunter Wilds players on Steam increased, but not all of the game`s problems were resolved. It remains to be seen if the new expansion will turn things around for Monster Hunter Wilds.
