Nintendo`s first Partner Direct event following the launch of the Switch 2 kicked off with a major announcement from Capcom: the reveal of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. This latest installment continues the beloved spin-off series that originated on the Nintendo 3DS, inviting players once again to step into the shoes of a “Rider” rather than a traditional “Hunter.” In this new adventure, you assume the unique role of the sole Rathalos rider within the world of Azuria.
While the initial reveal showcased compelling in-game footage, no direct gameplay was demonstrated. However, fans can mark their calendars, as the game is set for release in 2026.
A Tale of Two Nations and Ancient Prophecies
According to an official press release, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection delves into a profound narrative centered around “two nations on the path to ruin”: Azuria, your homeland, and the rival nation of Vermeil. A glimmer of hope emerges with the discovery of a mysterious egg, prominently featured in the trailer. Yet, this hope is quickly intertwined with ancient prophecy as twin Rathalos hatch from it, bearing the same distinctive mark as the Twin Skyscale Rathalos—creatures described as “portents of destruction that hearken back to a civil war waged 200 years ago.”
As the heir to Azuria, your character is tasked with protecting both monsters and the populace across the land. A pivotal, “life-changing event” compels you to journey towards “the forbidden land beyond the northern Meridian.” During this perilous quest, you are joined by Eleanor, the princess of Vermeil, who is driven by her own concerns regarding the true intentions of her sister, the Queen of Vermeil.
Multiplatform Release Confirmed
In a significant update provided post-Direct, Capcom clarified that Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will not be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. The game is also slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, ensuring a wider audience can experience this epic new chapter.
