Microsoft Raises Xbox Console Prices in the US for the Second Time This Year

If you`re considering purchasing an Xbox console for the upcoming holiday season, it might be wise to do so sooner rather than later. Microsoft has just announced another round of price increases for its consoles, effective October 3.

Effective October 3, the entry-level 512GB Xbox Series S will see its price rise to $400 in the US. The premium Xbox Series X model, featuring a disc drive and two terabytes of storage, will now retail for $800. Below is a comprehensive list of the updated prices across the Xbox lineup:

New Xbox Console Prices (Effective October 3rd, US)

Model Old Price (USD) New Price (USD)
Xbox Series S 512GB $380 $400
Xbox Series S 1TB $430 $450
Xbox Series X Digital Edition 1TB $550 $600
Xbox Series X 1TB $500 $650
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition $730 $800

This marks the second price hike initiated by Microsoft this year, following an earlier increase in May. In its official announcement, Microsoft attributes these adjustments to “changes in the macroeconomic environment.” Notably, prices for Xbox consoles outside the US will remain unaffected.

The escalating prices for gaming consoles, along with their associated games and accessories, have emerged as a concerning trend over the past year. This phenomenon is widely believed to be linked to tariffs imposed by the current US administration, although most companies have refrained from explicitly confirming this connection.

This trend is not isolated to Microsoft. PlayStation similarly increased its console prices earlier this year. Pre-orders for the upcoming Switch 2 in the US experienced a brief delay while Nintendo evaluated its pricing strategy. Upon its eventual release, many game and accessory prices for the Switch 2 surpassed consumer expectations, and just last month, Nintendo also raised the price of the original Switch console.

Consumers looking to purchase an Xbox console at current prices are advised to act before October 3rd.
