Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi Set Reaches New Low Price Ahead of Prime Big Deal Days

A highly anticipated retro gaming-themed Lego set, the Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi, is currently available at an exceptional discount on Amazon and Walmart. This 1,215-piece display model, designed for adults, can be purchased for $104 (originally $130), an all-time low price, just before the Prime Big Deal Days event. The interactive set uniquely captures the 16-bit pixel art style of the Super Nintendo, standing out as the only Nintendo Lego set to replicate this classic visual aesthetic.

Launched last October, the Mario & Yoshi set was introduced as a more budget-friendly option within Lego`s limited series of official Nintendo models aimed at adult enthusiasts and collectors. The collection has since grown to eight models, notably including the Lego Game Boy, which debuted this week.

The Lego Super Mario World: Mario and Yoshi set, with its 1,215 pieces, faithfully recreates the pixelated look characteristic of the Super Nintendo era. It offers an enjoyable building experience and serves as an ideal display item for all Super Mario fans, particularly those who appreciate the iconic 16-bit character designs.

Once assembled, the model measures 15.5 x 10 x 4 inches and incorporates several interactive elements. A dial located behind Yoshi`s head allows his tongue to extend. A crank on the side of the base activates a more complex animation: Yoshi`s legs move, simulating a running motion, while the figure bounces rapidly. Yoshi`s head also sways back and forth, and Mario`s cape gently flutters, faithfully replicating in-game movements.

Furthermore, the set includes an Action Tag, enabling interaction with Lego Super Mario starter course interactive figures (Mario, Luigi, or Peach) if you already own them.

Lego has provided exceptionally clear and easy-to-follow instructions. I personally utilized both the physical instruction booklet and the Lego Builder app on an iPad. The numbering of the square pieces, essential for constructing the `pixel art,` proved particularly beneficial for me as a colorblind individual.

While officially designated as part of Lego`s `18+` adult collection, children accustomed to building 1,000-piece sets will likely find this model manageable.

Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi

The Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set is an excellent collectible for `90s gamers, perfectly complementing the Lego Game Boy on any display shelf. The 421-piece Lego Game Boy DMG replica, launched on October 1st (exactly one year after the Mario & Yoshi set), is a near 1:1 scale model of the original. This $60 building set includes two buildable cartridges, The Legend of Zelda: Link`s Awakening and Super Mario Land, along with two display stands: one for the handheld console and one for a cartridge. The second cartridge can be stored within the Game Boy`s slot. Additionally, it features lenticular screens showcasing the Game Boy`s boot sequence, a cutscene from Link`s Awakening, and the opening level of Super Mario Land.

The Game Boy set is one of Lego`s recent Nintendo display model releases. Earlier this year in May, Lego also introduced a 1,972-piece Mario Kart display model for $170. This intricate build showcases Mario`s signature red kart and provides the first realistic Lego interpretation of the character`s modern 3D design.

Below, we have compiled a list of all eight available Nintendo display sets. Apart from the Mario & Yoshi set, the only other discounted item is the 540-piece Piranha Plant, priced at $48 (reduced from $60). Regrettably, two classic Nintendo gaming sets, the Lego NES and the Super Mario 64 Question Block, have been officially retired. Additionally, please note: The Mighty Bowser set is nearing retirement, meaning it will likely be unavailable in stores after the current holiday season. Historically, retired Nintendo display models have commanded prices well above their initial MSRPs, a trend the 2,807-piece Bowser set is expected to follow once it exits production.
