Lego Mario Kart: New Sets and Deals on Existing Collections

The Lego Mario Kart collection has seen a significant expansion with the release of its second wave of playsets on August 1. Following the January launch, these new building sets continue to feature karts directly inspired by the video game series and introduce a character previously unreleased in Lego form: Wario. The popular antihero, complete with his signature pink kart and paraglider, is bundled with King Boo`s charming Teddy Bear-inspired Buggy. This combo pack is one of five new sets now available. Further solidifying Lego Mario Kart`s presence, the collection now offers its own `Interactive Lego Mario & Standard Kart` starter set.

Below is a concise overview of the complete Lego Mario Kart lineup, encompassing both the recent additions and the initial wave of playsets, with some items currently available at their lowest prices ever:

Lego Mario Kart new sets (August 2025)
Lego Mario Kart new sets (August 2025)

Fans of Bowser will be pleased to discover his fiery castle has joined the collection, a set boasting over 1,000 pieces and priced at $100, designed to complement the Grand Prix playset from the initial launch. If your primary interest lies in the character of Bowser rather than his fortress, consider acquiring the `Bowser`s Muscle Car` set for $26 before it`s retired from major retailers—it`s already out of stock at the Lego Store. Alternatively, you might prefer to allocate your $100 towards a different, brand-new Bowser Lego set: `Prince Florian & Castle Bowser`. This is the first build inspired by Super Mario Bros. Wonder, recreating the Switch game`s final boss battle as a 1,251-piece model, and is one of three new main Lego Super Mario sets.

The second wave of Lego Mario Kart also introduces what appear to be the series` first retailer-exclusive playsets. The `Piranha Plant Power-Up Pursuit` set, featuring Koopa Troopa and Toadette, is currently only listed on Target and the Lego Store websites. Similarly, the $20 `Shy Guy & P-Wing` set is exclusively found on Target and Lego Store product pages. While official confirmation of their exclusivity is pending, it would be highly unusual for Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy to all be missing the same two new releases. These two sets were unveiled after the other three, a pattern observed with Target`s past Lego Mario exclusives.

As of August 2025, the Lego Mario Kart series comprises 11 playsets, with most priced at $50 or less. A complete collection would yield 17 karts, 24 figures, and numerous interactive accessories. This count excludes the `Mario Kart: Lego Mario & Standard Kart` display model, a 1,972-piece set designed for adults, which debuted in May at the Lego Store and became available at major retailers last month. For those looking to complete their collection of the original six Mario Kart sets, significant savings are currently available at Amazon and Walmart (as of August 3): `Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi,` `Toad`s Garage,` and `Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo` are all discounted by 20%. Below, you`ll find detailed descriptions of all 11 playsets and the impressive display model, organized from newest to oldest. If your interest lies primarily in the character figures, we`ve also included alternative options from the traditional Lego Super Mario line, as figures and elements from those sets are compatible with the Lego Mario Kart collection.

Detailed Set Breakdowns

Lego Mario Kart: Interactive Lego Mario & Standard Kart (72043)

$55 | 278 Pieces

Interactive Lego Mario & Standard Kart

The introduction of a proper starter set featuring Interactive Mario is a strong indication that the Lego Mario Kart series will continue to expand in the coming months and years. Previously, if you were new to Lego Super Mario when the kart-racing sub-series launched in early 2025, you would need one of the three “Adventures with Lego Mario” starter sets to utilize the visual and audio effects integrated into each kit.

Now, you can obtain the Mario figure, his Standard Kart, and a variety of accessories equipped with interactive Action Tags. The buildable, battery-operated figure boasts expressive LCD eyes and a chest screen that displays diverse elements, colors, and animations based on the Action Tag Mario steps on. When an Interactive figure occupies the driver`s seat of a kart, you`ll experience and hear reactions when the race begins, during drifting or gliding, when honking the horn, and more. Various accessories within each set also feature Action Tags that trigger unique sound effects and expressions.

Mario is accompanied by a Bob-omb with an Action Tag, a Thwomp, and track components, including connectible barriers, an interactive Item Box, two traffic cones, a Banana, an interactive platform for race starts, and a winner`s circle platform adorned with checkered flags and the Mushroom Cup logo, celebrating the victor when standing on its Action Tag. Red and Green Shells can be launched from the removable launcher on the kart.

The Standard Kart is the identical signature red vehicle that was part of the January 2025 launch lineup for $20—though that version lacked the Super Glider. Therefore, if you already own an Adventures with Lego Mario starter set and the Standard Kart, this new starter set might not be necessary for you. Furthermore, similar to the original starter sets, Mario Kart is currently starting with only Interactive Mario, though we anticipate Luigi and Peach will receive their own Mario Kart sets in the future. For now, however, you`ll still need to purchase the traditional platforming-focused starter sets to acquire those figures.

Interactive Mario & Standard Kart is priced at $55, five dollars more than its platforming counterparts, but it includes 60 more pieces. The trio of “Adventures with Lego Mario” starter sets were refreshed last year. Currently, you can save $10 on the Peach and Luigi starter sets, while the Mario course is $42 (originally $50).

  • Mario Kart: Lego Mario & Standard Kart (278 pieces) — $55
  • Adventures with Lego Mario (218 pieces) — $42 ($50)
    • Also includes Bowser Jr., Green Yoshi, and Goomba figures.
  • Adventures with Lego Luigi (210 pieces) — $40 ($50)
    • Also includes Kamek, Boo, and Pink Baby Yoshi figures.
  • Adventures with Lego Peach (208 pieces) — $40 ($50)
    • Also includes Lakitu, Yellow Toad, and Lava Bubble figures.

Lego Mario Kart: Wario & King Boo (72038)

$50 | 512 Pieces

Wario & King Boo Lego Set

It took five years, but Wario has finally made his entrance into the Lego Super Mario collection. We wouldn`t be surprised if this turns out to be the most sought-after of the five new sets, given the character`s immense popularity. Lego has masterfully captured Wario`s signature maniacal grin and intense gaze—you can almost hear his distinctive voice just by looking at him. It feels like he truly deserves his own starter set featuring an Interactive Wario figure.

Wario`s signature pink Badwagon comes with the Wario Wing paraglider, which features the upper part of his face. The glider is detachable, allowing you to connect it to any kart, including the Teddy Buggy, an adorable blue kart designed with a teddy bear face. Our apologies to King Boo for the Wario-centric focus here; King Boo is also cool and clearly thrilled to join the race, but Wario undeniably steals the show. Additionally, from a construction standpoint, King Boo isn`t as dynamically engaging as some other characters in the lineup. The cube-shaped figure is consistent with the one included in King Boo`s Haunted Mansion, a Lego Mario expansion set released last year and currently available for $62 (originally $75) at Best Buy.

The 512-piece Wario & King Boo set includes two Green Shells, a Red Shell, and two traffic cones.

Lego Mario Kart: Piranha Plant Power-Up Pursuit (72044)

$50 | 588 Pieces

Piranha Plant Power-Up Pursuit Lego Set

If this set proves to be exclusive to Target and the Lego Store, Target has truly secured a fantastic one. The 588-piece Piranha Plant Power-Up Pursuit features a unique kart element not found in any other kits.

A Piranha Plant can be attached to the front of Toadette`s Cat Cruiser or Koopa Troopa`s Tanooki Kart. The Potted Piranha Plant itself has a pair of rubberized tires, distinct from the wheels on the karts.

It`s exciting to see one of the more intriguing items from the video game series translated into a Lego build. Originally Princess Peach`s Special Item in Mario Kart Arcade GP, the Potted Piranha Plant was later introduced into the mainline series in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Switch—though it`s absent from Mario Kart World.

The set also comes with an Item Box featuring an Action Tag, two Red Shells, and one Green Shell. Each kart has an Action Tag that triggers sound effects when driven by Interactive Lego Mario/Luigi/Peach.

Toadette has only appeared twice before in Lego Super Mario, and this set marks the most affordable option featuring the popular character. The other two sets with a Toadette figure are no longer in production, but you might still find them at retail price or less on Amazon.

  • Toad`s Treasure Hunt (464 pieces) — $50 ($70)
    • Includes Toadette, Toad, 2 Cheep Cheeps, Goomba.
  • Peach`s Castle (1,216 pieces) — $130
    • Includes Toadette, Bowser, Ludwig, Goomba, Bob-omb.

For a larger Piranha Plant, consider the 540-piece Lego Super Mario: Piranha Plant display model for adults, which is currently on sale for $48 (originally $60).

Lego Mario Kart: Shy Guy & P-Wing (72045)

$20 | 249 Pieces

Shy Guy & P-Wing Lego Set

The Shy Guy & P-Wing set is the third Lego Mario Kart offering that primarily serves as a character pack. This 249-piece build features Shy Guy and his P-Wing kart, complete with a detachable Plane Glider, Red and Green Shells, and a Banana.

This is a significant addition to the lineup, as the Red Shy Guy figure has been difficult to acquire recently. He was featured in several series of Lego Super Mario Character Packs, but these were mystery bags. Red Shy Guy also appeared in the now-retired Boomer Bill Barrage set, which currently sells for well above its original MSRP. You can still find Pink Shy Guy in the Soda Jungle Maker playset, but this one is also slated for retirement soon, so it`s advisable to get it while you can.

  • Soda Jungle Maker (598 pieces) — $44.49 ($55)
    • Includes Pink Shy Guy, Wiggler, Piranha Plant.
  • Super Mario Character Packs – Retired
    • Series 2
    • Series 5
  • Boomer Bill Barrage (132 pieces) – Retired

Lego Mario Kart: Bowser`s Castle (72039)

$100 | 1,068 Pieces

Bowser`s Castle Lego Set

Bowser`s Castle is the inaugural Lego Mario Kart playset to exceed 1,000 pieces. This marks a trifecta for King Koopa, as the iconic villain also holds the titles in the other two Lego Mario categories: display model for adults (The Mighty Bowser) and traditional Super Mario playset (The Bowser Express Train).

The 1,068-piece set features Bowser and Green Yoshi with their Standard ATV and Mach 8 karts. Each kart includes an Action Tag for Interactive Lego Mario/Luigi/Peach figures. The castle wall measures 14 inches wide, and the decorative horns at the top extend over 10 inches from the ground. The gated walls on each side can fold inward or outward, allowing for a maximum depth of 8 inches.

The castle incorporates numerous interactive elements. The Thwomp is connected to a chain that drops down to obstruct the fiery underpass. Racers can launch Red/Green shells at the flames and the Thwomp, and a small ramp positioned in front of the door assists in launching karts safely through the entrance. There are two additional ways to enter the (imaginary) castle. Both gated walls, though constructed with different pieces, are destructible, enabling karts to smash through to the other side. Each route, however, presents an additional obstacle: one gate is guarded by a spinning Fire Bar, while the other is overlooked by a Lava Bubble that plummets to the floor with a press of a lever.

As it`s Bowser`s Castle, a dedicated spot in the tower allows the Bowser figure to stand. While other Lego Mario figures can drive Bowser`s kart, its front is adorned with his logo, making one of his minions or his son Bowser Jr. (included with the Lego Super Mario starter set) thematically most appropriate. With Bowser`s Castle, you can begin to envision how Lego Mario Kart kits can be combined to construct larger courses. It essentially functions as the Wave Two equivalent of the Grand Prix set, which comprises three racers/karts, a starting gate, and track barriers that can extend from the starting line to the castle walls.

If you desire a Lego Bowser figure but prefer not to spend $100, consider acquiring the 458-piece Bowser`s Muscle Car for $26 (originally $30). This playset, slated for retirement soon, includes the same Lego Bowser figure. The blue and yellow Muscle Car from Super Mario 3D World is larger than Lego Mario Kart vehicles, but you can connect the Bowser figure to a kart from another set. As for Yoshi, this marks the character`s second appearance in the Mario Kart series, but the $15 Yoshi`s Bike set features the Light Blue variant.

  • Bowser`s Muscle Car (458 pieces) — $26 ($30)
    • Includes same Bowser figure and retires soon.
  • Prince Florian & Castle Bowser (1,251 pieces) — $100
    • Super Mario Bros. Wonder final boss. Released August 1.
  • The Mighty Bowser (2,807 pieces) — $270
    • Display model for adults
  • The Bowser Express Train (1,392 pieces) — $120
    • Lego Super Mario expansion set

Lego Mario Kart: Mario & Standard Kart (72037)

$170 | 1,972 Pieces

Lego Mario Kart: Mario & Standard Kart Display Model

The Mario Kart: Mario & Standard Kart is the sole building set in the series specifically aimed at adults. This 1,972-piece model features a considerably larger and more intricately detailed version of the Standard Kart. You also get the most detailed rendition of the mustachioed racer`s modern 3D design. His head, arms, and thumbs are posable, but he cannot stand independently outside of the kart. However, you can display Mario separately if he is propped up against something.

The completed model measures approximately 12.5 inches long, 7.5 inches wide, and 8.5 inches tall. It includes a cleverly designed, buildable display stand that can be tilted in various directions, making Mario appear as if he is ascending/descending a hill or drifting around a track bend. The rubberized wheels are fully functional and roll smoothly, but it`s important to note that this large-scale model is not intended for active play, and colliding the kart into a real wall—or Bowser`s Castle—could dislodge some pieces. The same applies to the Mario figure, which requires delicate handling. This is why Interactive Lego Mario figures—and most figures in general—are blocky rather than rounded: the rounded design makes the build more fragile. But as a display model? The Mario figure might be Lego`s most impressive Nintendo build to date. It looks incredible.

Similar to some other Nintendo display models, Mario & Standard Kart comes with a physical instruction booklet and support for an interactive guide within the Lego Builder app on iOS and Android. With the free app, you can observe each step of the building process in 3D and manipulate the diagram to view the work-in-progress from any desired angle.

This set launched as a Lego Store exclusive on May 15 before becoming available at major retailers on July 1.

Lego Mario Kart: Standard Kart (72032)

$19 (was $20) | 174 Pieces

Lego Mario Kart: Standard Kart Set

As previously mentioned, Mario`s Standard Kart was part of the January 2025 launch lineup. However, even if you purchase the Interactive Lego Mario Kart starter set, this 174-piece build offers a couple of key features that might make it worthwhile to acquire this ubiquitous vehicle again. Most notably, this version includes Mario`s detachable Super Glider and Pit Crew Toad. You`ll also receive Red and Green Shells, a Banana, and a workstation for Toad that doubles as a target for launching Shells. Both the workstation and the kart feature Action Tags for Interactive Lego Mario/Luigi/Peach figures.

If you don`t own one of the Lego Mario starter sets, the included Pit Crew Toad figure can drive the kart instead.

Lego Mario Kart: Yoshi Bike (72031)

$13 (was $15) | 133 Pieces

Lego Mario Kart: Yoshi Bike Set

The Yoshi Bike remains the most affordable set in the series. This 133-piece set includes a green bike designed after Yoshi—it even features Yoshi Egg rims—a Light Blue Yoshi figure, two red and two blue traffic cones, an Item Box, a Banana, and Red and Green Shells.

Mario, Luigi, and Peach figures react as the race begins, while drifting, when honking the bike`s horn, and when the bike is in hover mode. In addition to the physical items, colliding with the Item Box plays out just like in the games, with sound and visual effects indicating which item you`ve acquired.

One of the three Interactive Super Mario figures from the starter sets is necessary to generate audio and visual effects, but Yoshi certainly looks impressive on the bike. This is the first time Light Blue Yoshi has appeared in a Lego Mario set. You can also connect Yoshi figures from other sets to the bike. The Adventures with Mario starter set includes Green Yoshi. Besides the aforementioned Bowser`s Castle, you`ll find Yoshi figures in the following sets. Note: Most of the sets below are discontinued.

  • Super Mario Adventures Starter Course (218 pieces) — $42 ($50)
  • Yoshi`s Egg-cellent Forest (107 pieces) — $10 | Yellow and Pink Yoshi
  • Yoshi`s Fruit Tree (46 pieces) — $7.80 | Yellow Yoshi
  • Picnic at Mario`s House (259 pieces) — $32 ($38) | Yellow Yoshi
  • Yoshi`s Gift House (246 pieces) — $33.50 | Green Yoshi
  • Mario`s House & Yoshi (205 pieces) — $34.49 | Green Yoshi
  • Peach`s Garden Balloon Ride (453 pieces) — $64 | Pink Yoshi (Target Exclusive)

Lego Mario Kart: Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi (72034)

$23.80 (was $30) | 321 Pieces

Lego Mario Kart: Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi Set

The ridiculously charming Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi set rewinds time to an era before the brothers knew how to use a toilet, let alone fix one. Arguably the cutest Lego Super Mario set ever created, this 321-piece kit features buildable Baby Mario and Luigi figures, along with the Biddybuggy and Tri-Speeder karts. The former is a red buggy inspired by the Para-Biddybud enemy that first appeared in Super Mario 3D Land. Meanwhile, Baby Luigi drives one of the few three-wheeled karts in the series.

As for accessories, it comes with Red and Green Shells and six balloons to serve as targets. Alternatively, the Super Baby Bros. can wield the balloons like hammers and playfully bop each other on the head.

Adult Mario, Luigi, and Peach figures can take control of the karts from the babies and interact. Baby Mario and Luigi have not yet learned to talk (they are not interactive figures).

Luigi`s kart is the only one in the lineup with three wheels.

Lego Mario Kart: Toad`s Garage (72035)

$32 (was $40) | 390 Pieces

Lego Mario Kart: Toad`s Garage Set

Toad`s Garage is a 390-piece set that includes two Blue Toad figures, the B Dasher kart, a Customization Machine with an operable car elevator, a tire rack with four spare tires, a raised platform for one of the Toads to stand on, two-way radio and wrench accessories, and a Red Shell.

Toad`s Garage features unique customization capabilities not found in other Mario Kart sets. You can switch between blue and black wheels with the assistance of the Customization Machine (the long hose). This machine can also be used to connect the engine and hose. The car elevator has a crank that you can turn to raise the platform.

The Customization Machine is compatible with other karts in the series, making this an excellent addition to your collection if you are purchasing Lego Mario Kart kits for play.

Beyond the standard interactive elements when driving the B Dasher, Mario/Luigi/Peach figures provide sound and visual effects for the engine and horn when interacting with the Customization Machine.

As mentioned earlier, two of the three newly launched Lego Super Mario sets are themed around Toad—albeit different styles of Toad. Pit Crew Toads could drive over to Captain Toad`s cozy camp for $15, and you could even get them a house for $30—provided Blue and Green Toad don`t mind sharing.

  • Captain Toad`s Camp (159 pieces) — $15
  • Party at Toad`s House (276 pieces) — $30

Lego Mario Kart: Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo (72033)

$29.49 (was $35) | 387 Pieces

Lego Mario Kart: Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo Set

Donkey Kong`s DK Jumbo kart holds the title for the largest vehicle in the lineup—excluding the Mario Kart set designed for adults. Beyond the buildable Donkey Kong figure and barrel-inspired kart, it comes with Red and Green Shells and a target topped with a Banana item. The objective here is to launch shells at the target to knock over the smiling fruit.

In addition to the usual Mario Kart audio/visual effects, the DK Jumbo kart also incorporates elements from the Donkey Kong Country series when Interactive Mario, Luigi, or Peach are behind the wheel.

DK and his crew previously appeared in four Lego Super Mario sets, but all four were retired late last year. The good news is that Amazon recently restocked these sets. Amazon is currently the only major retailer carrying these sets, so grab them while you can. Note: Donkey Kong`s Tree House includes the same figure.

  • Donkey Kong`s Tree House (555 pieces) — $60
  • Diddy Kong`s Mine Cart Ride (1,157 pieces) — $88 ($110)
  • Dixie Kong`s Jungle Jam (174 pieces) — $18.89 ($27)
  • Rambi the Rhino Expansion Set (106 pieces) — $11

Lego Mario Kart: Baby Peach & Grand Prix Set (72036)

$80 | 823 Pieces

Lego Mario Kart: Baby Peach & Grand Prix Set

The 823-piece Grand Prix set includes several integral components of the Mario Kart experience, such as a starting gate, track barriers, a podium for the top three finishers in the race, and a Lakitu on a cloud holding a traffic light.

Technically named Baby Peach & Grand Prix Set, this makes sense as Peach is the clear highlight among the three included racers. Baby Peach, despite still using a pacifier, possesses her license and drives an adorable Wild Wiggler kart. Peach is joined by Red Toad on a Standard Bike and the Koopaling Lemmy on the Landship kart. All three karts feature Action Tags, as do several of the buildable accessories.

Other accessories include two red traffic cones, two Item Boxes, a snack wagon, directional signposts, Green and Red Shells, and a Banana.

Other Notable Lego Sets

Enthusiasts of Nintendo Lego sets might consider securing a preorder for what is poised to be one of the biggest hits since the collaboration began five years ago. The Lego Game Boy is a 421-piece brick-built replica of the iconic 1989 handheld console. Preorders have already sold out multiple times at the Lego Store, Walmart, and Best Buy. However, as of writing, the Lego Game Boy can still be preordered for $60 via Amazon and Target.

Here`s a look at all four Lego Super Mario starter sets with Interactive Lego Mario, Luigi, or Peach figures:

Adventures with Interactive Lego Mario (218 pieces)

$42 (was $50)

Adventures with Interactive Lego Mario Set

Adventures with Interactive Lego Mario will almost certainly be the most popular starter set to pair with the Mario Kart building kits. As mentioned, Amazon has already sold out of Adventures with Lego Mario twice this week, and it remains out of stock on Lego Mario Kart`s launch day. You can get Adventures with Interactive Lego Mario for $42 on Amazon right now.

Mario is always the most popular of the three, but in this case, he`s also an obvious choice due to the 174-piece Standard Kart set. This $20 kit allows fans to build a red kart emblazoned with Mario`s M logo. The kit also includes a small buildable Toad who works on the pit crew, but the kart was designed for Interactive Lego Mario. At this time, similarly styled Luigi and Peach karts do not exist, but it`s worth reiterating that all three figures can be connected to any of the Lego Mario Kart vehicles.

Adventures with Interactive Lego Mario comes with 218 pieces, including three additional buildable figures: Bowser Jr., Yoshi, and a Goomba. Bowser Jr. even has his flying Clown Car.

Adventures with Interactive Lego Peach (208 pieces)

$40 (was $50)

Adventures with Interactive Lego Peach Set

Adventures with Interactive Lego Peach is currently available at the best price among the three starter sets. Amazon offers the 208-piece Lego set featuring the Mushroom Kingdom`s beloved princess for $40. Like the Mario starter course, it includes three other buildable figures—Yellow Toad, Lava Bubble, and Lakitu. While Peach dashes and jumps towards the flag at the end of the mini-course, Lakitu attempts to hinder her atop their cloud with a fishing hook.

Adventures with Interactive Lego Luigi (210 pieces)

$42.49 (was $50)

Adventures with Interactive Lego Luigi Set

Luigi`s 210-piece starter set includes Kamek on her broomstick, Boo, and Pink Baby Yoshi.
