John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando: Gory Zombie-Killing and Vehicular Mayhem Coming 2026

After a two-year wait since its initial reveal, John Carpenter`s first-person horror shooter, Toxic Commando, showcased a new trailer at Gamescom`s Opening Night Live. This highly anticipated title, from the famed horror writer and director, also confirmed an early 2026 release window, promising a blend of intense action and signature horror.

Watch the new trailer for John Carpenter`s Toxic Commando:

Developed by Focus Entertainment, Toxic Commando plunges players into a dire post-apocalyptic world. An ancient eldritch horror, dubbed the Sludge God, has descended upon Earth, mutating most of humanity into grotesque zombie-like creatures. The game centers on a squad of heavily armed mercenaries tasked with navigating the devastated landscape to complete a crucial mission and confront this cosmic threat.

The game aims to capture the exaggerated humor and horror found in Carpenter`s 1980s classics, such as Escape From New York, alongside the camaraderie of buddy action films. Up to four players can form squads, selecting their characters, unique classes, a variety of vehicles, and a wide array of weapons to tackle the hordes. Importantly, cross-play functionality is supported across PC and console platforms, ensuring seamless multiplayer experiences.

The primary objective is to banish the Sludge God from Earth, a formidable task given that the infected vastly outnumber the surviving human population. As John Carpenter himself remarked in 2023:

“They blow up real good and there are a ton of them. People are going to love this game.”

John Carpenter`s Toxic Commando is set for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in early 2026.
