Following its unexpected reveal at the Xbox Showcase last month, news about Invincible VS, the 3v3 fighting game by Skybound and Quarter Up (a new studio formed by veteran fighting game developers), had been scarce. This period of silence has now explosively ended with the official confirmation of the addition of Rex Splode, the fiery Guardian of the Globe, to the game`s playable roster.
A new trailer introducing Rex Splode showcases some of his signature combos and special abilities. These moves revolve around his power to cause anything he touches to explode with kinetic force. The footage shows him launching explosive projectiles, transforming into an explosive sphere for multi-hit attacks, and even using exploding sticks up close, followed by his characteristic `polite` finishing touch.
Rex Splode joins a growing Invincible VS character lineup that already features Invincible, Atom Eve, Thula the Viltrumite, and Bulletproof. While Omni-Man was featured in the initial Xbox Showcase reveal trailer, his status as a playable character has not yet been confirmed.
Skybound revealed both the game and the newly formed development studio, Quarter Up, concurrently. Quarter Up was established by Mike Willette, recognized by fighting game enthusiasts as both a developer and the announcer`s voice for the Killer Instinct (2013) reboot. The studio`s team comprises developers with experience from that Killer Instinct project, alongside veterans from companies like Activision Blizzard, Riot Games, and others.
Invincible VS is scheduled for release in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
