Intergalactic: Hollywood Shows Early Interest in Naughty Dog’s Next Big Game

Following the immense success of Naughty Dog`s The Last of Us TV adaptation on HBO, a pertinent question arises: could the studio`s forthcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, also transition to television or the big screen?

While definitive answers remain elusive, Hollywood studios have already begun approaching Naughty Dog with proposals for an Intergalactic adaptation. Neil Druckmann, a key figure at Naughty Dog, revealed to Variety that these offers are based solely on the excitement generated by the game`s trailer, with studios having little detailed knowledge about the game itself.

The overwhelming success of The Last of Us series understandably fuels this interest in Naughty Dog`s subsequent project. However, Druckmann stresses that the studio`s primary focus is the meticulous development of Intergalactic into a “fantastic video game.” He clarified that any transmedia opportunities would only be considered once the game is complete and has established its success.

Druckmann further elaborated that such an adaptation would also necessitate the “right partnership.” Should these conditions be met, he expressed enthusiasm for Intergalactic potentially reaching a broader audience through film or television.

He noted that there are numerous concepts for expanding the Intergalactic universe, and its inherent structure makes such adaptations more straightforward. Currently, “interesting conversations” are taking place regarding future potential projects, but the overarching objective for Naughty Dog is to make Intergalactic its next groundbreaking title.

Regarding the game`s development, Druckmann shared, “We`re in the thick of it. We`re making it, we`re playing it. We`re firing on all cylinders.

He underscored the game`s ambition, stating that Intergalactic is “the most ambitious and expansive game we`ve ever made, possibly the most expensive, by the time we finish it.”

In related news, the third and possibly final season of HBO`s The Last of Us series is slated for 2027. The second season recently garnered a Creative Arts Emmy award and has secured multiple nominations for the main Emmy Awards ceremony on September 14.
