Hollow Knight Sees Player Surge Ahead of Silksong Launch

The unexpected announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong`s September 4 release date has sparked a remarkable revival for its predecessor. Days before the highly anticipated sequel`s debut, the original Hollow Knight is captivating a renewed surge of players, repeatedly breaking its concurrent Steam player records. On August 29, the game reached an impressive new peak of 56,192 simultaneous players, as reported by SteamDB.

Prior to this, Hollow Knight`s highest concurrent player count was just over 20,000 in May 2022. However, following the Silksong release date reveal, these numbers began climbing steadily. The day after the announcement, August 22, saw 21,000 players, leading up to the recent record of 56,192. Such a significant increase is particularly noteworthy for an indie title released seven years ago.

While SteamDB provides valuable data, it`s worth remembering that it represents only a portion of Hollow Knight`s total player base. The game is also widely enjoyed on various consoles, including Nintendo Switch (a particularly popular choice), PlayStation, and Xbox. This widespread engagement further underscores the enduring and expanding appeal of the Hollow Knight saga.

Recent previews of Silksong suggest a promising outlook. An early impression from Steve Watts, who experienced the game firsthand at Gamescom, describes it as “a strong, well-designed, visually lovely game that carries forward the aesthetic and design philosophies of the original with thoughtful, if not earth-shattering, updates.” This feedback indicates that Silksong is poised to meet high expectations, building upon the beloved foundation of its predecessor.
